I am using Getright download manager to download files from file library. I am also on a 56k dial-up modem, so large files take awhile to download. Hence I use Getright to ensure I successfully retrieve requested files in the event of interrupted downloads.I understand that file downloads have (for whatever reason) a unique 8 digit code as part of the URL address for the download server. This code is, apparently, only valid while you are logged in (for up to 30 minutes), or for up to 30 minutes or so after you have logged out of the file library.Frequently, I find that downloads will stop, presumably because the 30 or so minutes AND the code have expired. And in order to resume downloads, I have to log back into the file library, re-select files I want, and copy new file URL's with NEW 8 digit codes into Getright. For very large files, this procedure has to be repeated several times! So, I find this download resuming procedure labor intensive and inconvenient. Also, other people who may want to log into the file library may not be able to ( limits on number of people who can log in at one time), because too many people are logged in, including people who are trying to resume downloads! Therefore, I would suggest a new download procedure that does NOT require logging back in to the file library for resuming downloads. Also, that there should be NO time limit (or at least an extended time limit of, say, ONE DAY) on completing downloads; the present 30 minute time limit is insufficient and inconvenient.

RE: Download Resuming, Maybe!

I am using DAP (Download Accelerated Plus) for my downloads. I am on DSL but I use it anyways so I can figure out my avg kb/s downloads. An idea for you is that you can stay logged in and minimize the IE/other browser's window on your comp. If you are going to other websites you can open it in a new window but keep the train-sim.com's window minimized when you do this.I hope this helps.Sincerely,
Dave H.

RE: Download Resuming, Maybe!

Too expensive to get and use Cable and DSL here. So cable/DSL are not an option at this time, unfortunately.

RE: Download Resuming, Maybe!

I use DAP, and get a big download started, log OUT of the download section of Trai-Sim, BUT, the download is still running, and have went over an hour STILL downloading. (22 meg+ file) with NO problem, unless the internet connection craps out. If it does, then re log in, change the needed part, and resume. THis on a 56k dial up, BTW

RE: Download Resuming, Maybe!

If you are doing a long download like this, come back every twenty minutes and go to the next page in the file library. This resets the inactivity timer and keeps your connection active.Maybe inconvenient, but necessary in order to keep unauthorised downloads from happening. If you have trouble getting in now, just imagine what it would be like if it was un-restricted.Of course, you could also pay for membership...-Jeff

>active. Thanks, I am aware of this trick. But as you state below, it is inconvenient, as you have to reload or change pages every 20 ~ 25 minutes to keep connection alive. Also, downloads frequently continue to stop before completion, presumably due to expiration of 8 digit download code.>Maybe inconvenient, but necessary in order to keep

>un-restricted.Unauthorised downloads? Login name and password are required to access file library downloads, so I am not sure how downloads can be "unauthorised"?>Of course, you could also pay for membership... I am a member, so logging in is not a problem, it is inconvenient. At present, it still requires monitoring of downloads whether you are logged into the file library or not. Downloads will stop (usually due to expiration of download code), and it requires MANUAL download restarting.

RE: Download Resuming, Maybe!

If the download is stopping , it's something on your end.
Others have left it running for hours at a time with no issue.Manual? yeah , sometimes we actually gotta do stuff.

What download managers are others using (I am using Getright)?Another possibility, I just thought of, is that my internet connection to Train-Sim is via quite a few servers (about 15, according to Visualroute). So, maybe one or more of these servers could just stop sending data (for whatever reason) and cause the download to stop? Also, according to Visualroute, there is slight loss of signal at Train-Sim server, so this may have something to do with my download problems?>Manual? yeah , sometimes we actually gotta do stuff. It's a pain! Sigh!

RE: Download Resuming, Maybe!

I personally don't use any managers , but I am on DSL...it sounds like you may already have found the problem if something is dropping out.
which means using Dl manager and reentering the new info may be the only way.and yeah , manually doin stuff can kind shux at times.good luck.

>Unauthorised downloads? Login name and password are required
>to access file library downloads, so I am not sure how
>downloads can be "unauthorised"? Simple really. Each download basically has a URL associated with it. If there were no timed or specific passcodes per that given session, nothing is to stop someone from releasing the URL. The way it is now, even if someone gave someone else the code for that particular download session, it wouldn't remain active for long.Make sense?-Jeff
