Jun-18-01, 03:10 PM (EST) "Animals are really ghosts!" Driving my train along the Marias Pass the other day I hit a deer.I was going along at about 40 mph when in the distance I saw an oncoming train. To my horror I then saw 3 deer,2 on the oppisite track and 1 on my track,I expected all the deer to move out of the way but they just stood there eating. All of a sudden, just as the other train met mine we hit all 3 deer.Expecting the worst I hit my 3 key to see the blood and gore I thought would be there. After we passed,to my relief the deer were still there, just eating away, unharmed!
Just thought I would share this with any animal lovers out there.I know I sure felt better after I realized I did'nt hurt the deer.

There's enough dead deer beside the roads in the real world. But obviously the sim still has a few bugs in it. This sort of thing isn't too hard to live with though, since it doesn't really affect game play.

Jun-18-01, 08:11 PM (EST) 3. "RE: Animals are really ghosts!" I have found on the Marias Pass route, that if you blow the horn the deer will run off of the track your train is currently on. Remove | Alert Edit | Reply | Reply With Quote | Top

Jun-23-01, 00:49 AM (EST) 5. "RE: Animals are really ghosts!" Are animals really hazards in this game? A small, harmless dear against a HUGE train going at 80 mph downhill, carrying chemical cars and oil cars, which would mean if the deer was a hazard, the train would explode into a shimmering ball of incandescent fury. That deer would have to way much more than 20 tons!Deer = hazard?MrE Remove | Alert Edit | Reply | Reply With Quote | Top

Jul-26-01, 09:32 AM (EST) 8. "RE: Animals are really ghosts!" A different scale, but ISTR that people were killed at Polmont in the UK when a cow was struck by a DVT (driving van trailer) on a Glasgow/Edinburgh service.A Northern Ireland Railways DMU I travelled on a few years back struck a cow and had to be taken out of service because of damage to the front end gear too...

Jun-24-01, 12:26 PM (EST) 6. "RE: Animals are really ghosts!" I just saw that happen also. I've also had a car run the crossing
right in front of me, thought I should have hit it, guess they are ghosts too. Remove | Alert Edit | Reply | Reply With Quote | Top

Jul-26-01, 03:54 PM (EST) 9. "RE: Animals are really ghosts!" Man, what kind of trains are they running in the UK that a cow can derail it or damage it to the extent it's removed from service? I'm guessing these are probably smaller commuter trains that you're talking about and not freight trains?
We hit animals every single day. A large cow would certainly create more of a "thud", and more of a bloody mess, but that's about it. Deer sometimes aren't even noticed, unless you see it ahead of time and anticipate the crunch.
The worst animal incident I've experienced was hitting a cow that apparently had full bowels. Our lead unit literally smalled like a ton of ##### for the rest of the trip. It was summer and it was up under the cab, so we couldn't wash it off at any intermediate terminals. NASTY!!!!Master Qui-Gon

Aug-10-01, 10:35 PM (EST) 11. "RE: Animals are really ghosts!" The UK trains mentioned were light weight. The DVT is basically a passenger car with a driving cab attached, the other was a light weight regional DMU.I hit a cow once, made a big mess Remove | Alert Edit | Reply | Reply With Quote | Top

Jul-26-01, 10:53 PM (EST) 10. "RE: Animals are really ghosts!" On those mysterious planes between Glacier Park and Cutbank I saw a tractor trailer rig drive through my train, leaving both unharmed and continuing on their separate ways.Perhaps they put a Star Trek-like matter transporter into the simulation! Which keys do we use to activate it!??GK Remove | Alert Edit | Reply | Reply With Quote | Top
