When driving home in Columbus on I-270 today saw two semi's carrying train engines. Well part of them. The back part of the body. Not sure what engines model it was for. There was 4 total being hauled. It had a flare on top and looked like one big hole in it for a fan.
The thing I am most impressed by is the fact you did not get shot at while you were on I-270. I use to drive for Landair transport there in "CMH" when the terminal was located in Groveport. It got to the point where I knew that town better than my own.Chris Bogley Syracuse New York
One of the more impressive truck/train combinations I've ever seen was back a couple years ago when a BN grain train derailed in southeast Nebraska, about 75 miles south of Omaha. The Hulcher gang was there and loaded 15 of the derailed hoppers on to flatbed semis for transport to the Railcar Nebraska shops in Omaha. Each truck had 2 flag vehicles leading them, and another following. The operation had one mishap. Just a few miles from the derailment scene one of the semis either took an exit ramp a little too fast and/or the load shifted and flipped the truck, trailer and hopper on it's side. It took about 12 hours to get the remaining cars into town with only a few tree branches and a couple low hanging traffic signals the only other casualaties.
Before I moved to Howell a couple of months ago, I used to regularly (like two or three times a week) see a semi on I-94 heading east through Battle Creek with a complete long hood on a flatbed. My guess was that, since they were always heading east, and always EMDs, that they were being taken from La Grange to London. Always interesting to see what kind of hood was going, as you could usually tell what EMD had orders for by that...RDF
