After seeing this, you begin to think "Are Delta and Amtrak run by the same mangement as well?, It would explain a lot." At least on CP rail, if both engines died, you would not be in that much trouble. http://www.railpictures.net/viewphoto.php?id=13445http://www.airliners.net/open.file/286144/M/-NHtrainCould these be the same? – image 2 Could these be the same? – image 3

Yes, 8921 is definately the Empress...and was, last time I checked, in St. Thomas, not Steamtown.8917 was one of 20 CLC-built H24-66 Train Masters. As for the airline and railroad...yup, one and the same. CP Airlines and CP Steamlines (that's right, a shipping company) were owned by Canadian Pacific. CP Airlines was spun off in the early 1980ies, IIRC, and became Canadian Airlines...which a couple of years ago went bankrupt and the remaining assets bought by Air Canada. Here's where things get trippy...Air Canada was once a division of Canadian National! It was started in the 1930ies I believe as a division of CNR, and was spun off sometime in the 1950ies.6 degrees of separation, anyone?DanMaking a mockery of serious business for 23 years.

RE: Could these be the same?

There's a great book called "Wing Walkers", it details the history of Canadian Pacific Airlines. Mostly about aviation, but a good view of the transportation history of Canada nonetheless.

Also a good "read" is "A Century of Corporate Welfare",
the history of CPRail and how it was begun with Government money literally being given to private enterprise.
