Dell's India helpline returns to US
'Thick accents', pat responses result in complaints NEW DELHI - A slew of complaints about Indian accents has prompted Dell Computer to shift part of its customer enquiries service back to the United States, the first such reversal for India's booming outsourcing sector. Managers at the Texas-based company on Tuesday sought to play down the implications of the decision, saying it would not mean job losses at its customer service centre in Bangalore.

But they said US business customers 'had issues' with differing Indian accents.'Customers weren't satisfied with the level of support they were receiving, so we're moving some calls around to make sure they don't feel that way anymore,' a Dell spokesman said.

Finally, someone has come to their senses. On my first Dell the hard drive went kaput.....call customer support. Those people over there cannot speak English nor hear it, what a nightmare. I just gave up. Thankfully, with XP you never have to call. Hopefully, more US companys will learn that cheap labor isn't always the best way to go.Happy Turkey Day KidsBob & O'Riley

>Compaq was just as bad. Compaq/HP is one of the WORST both support and product...
Upgrade for my Compaq BIOS??? Nowhere to be found on Compaq's site. $35/call per hour for support... NO THANKS.... Finally found one at Micron PC... Same MB, same BIOS, works like a champ.. I guess it is no longer a Compaq, because it displays Micron PC at boot up....
