OT: FIRE! At school – image 1

It had not happened at the current location of our school (at 375 years old, the oldest independent prep-school in the country) but today, at approximately 11:30 AM, people on the 8th through 11th floors saw smoke exiting the ventalation shafts. The cause was a fire in the theatre in the basement of the main building of the school. Everyone was caught by surprise, as there had been a false alarm just 45 minutes earlier. This rounds out a painful autumn for the school in which two teachers died, two students were seriously injured (one with a fractured skull) at a party after being assaulted by kids from another school, and now the fire. Luckily no one was hurt, and the damage was minimal.

There was a fire last last Tueday I think in my school. Not a big one but someone called the firemen. They came and they left within 15 minutes.
It was just an Overhead projector frying... But it did cause lots of smoke! And 2/3 of the fire extinguishers on that level were empty...

-----You are reading my signature now, don't waste your time reading it!-----
Or probably, maybe you should waste your time reading it.
Eh, where did my signature go?
Oh, here it is, the one you are reading right now? Can't you see it? I know I know, it's probably too bright to see it.
Hey, look at my avatar, nice right? I drew it with my own hands holding the mouse in Paint, with the pencil tool(and the Filling tool!)!
It's a picture of me in Planet Stooopid, where everything is the same as what you call "Earth" except that we are called "aliens" in your planet.
Anyway, I warned you not waste time reading my signature! You have just wasted probably about 30 seconds reading it, where you could have spent the time doing better things, like maybe reading the next post below if there is one...

LAST EDITED ON Nov-26-03 AT 07:47 AM (EST)

Ah, we had a fire once when I was the resident Electrian at our school theatre. Someone was using the make-up room as a prop storage room, as I opened up the building I walked through turning on lights.Opened the door, flipped the two switches activating the low-wattage ceiling lights and the 150 or so lights around the mirrors. I did not bother to check to see if any fake foliage may have been near the lights as when I did my walk-through the night before and turned off the lights, there was none. I did remember waiting several minutes to lock up whilst someone from the troupe renting the facility stashed a few last props in the storage room-or so I thought.I continued to turn on the rest of the lights in the green room areas and walked into the main electrical room to start warming up the dimmer units. Once this was completed I walked back to my office and started in on the mound of paperwork that always seemed to grow during the night.A group of people came in and went down the hallway to the green room, then came running back out and up to my office exclaiming FIRE FIRE!!!! "Well lovely eh? Where is it?" "The make up room down the hall, down the hall!!!!! It's all smoky!!!"So what are you supposed to do when there's a fire? I told them to go out front, call 911, and wait. I ran down towards the hall and pulled one of the fire alarms on the way.The hallway was NOT full of smoke. There was some near the ceiling but not even down far enough to reach the top of the doorjambs. It was coming from the make-up room. I ran down, grabbing one of the fire extinquishers from a cabinet, and peeked around the door to find:A burning bush. Yes, that's right, fake foliage. Fakeliage as I like to call it. I walked in, extinguished the conflagrant shrub and doused most of the room in yellow gunk, then went to find something to expel the smoke, take care of the alarm, and of course, fill out the neccesary paperwork. Kicker is, the fire department never responded, and I certainly never called to officially cancel the alarm (I aknowleged the alarm and set it to silent, in that mode it goes off for 60 seconds every 15 minutes until the smoke detectors don't sense smoke anymore, if they were in the first place), or 911 call. To my knowledge, and as I put in my report, neither did anyone else. I would have appreciated their coming down anyways to make sure everything was ok, but... alas, who really cares when the fire alarm goes off at a school? Probably a prank eh?I have no idea why I just spent about 15 minutes writing all that out. I guess I expected it to be shorter. Sorry for ramblin'!Tim Frost

Yep, kinda reminds me of a false alarm at my elementary school a couple years back. The intense heat that day set off an alarm, the kind that was activated by heat sensor. The whole school was evacuated, everyone was saying, "D@mn, this is scary $#it, man." I was astounded at how the FDNY responded so quickly. So we filed back into our miserable classrooms and the teacher gave us the lecture on the heat-sensored alarm, how it was set off, etc. Fun.MTA Going your way for 100 years. 1904-2004
