OT Internet Radio – image 1

I notice that in the local Internet Radio and using a radio, both of the same frequency, the Internet Radio seems to be slower.
The last time I timed was 3 min 43 seconds difference!
Is there anyway to lessen the time between the Internet Radio and the "normal "radio".
Or is it the other side which is broadcasting it with delays?
They use Windows Media Player.
But the gap seems to hvae increased when I upgraded to WMP 9 from 7. The original gap seems to be 1 minute only.

-----You are reading my signature now, don't waste your time reading it!-----
Or probably, maybe you should waste your time reading it.
Eh, where did my signature go?
Oh, here it is, the one you are reading right now? Can't you see it? I know I know, it's probably too bright to see it.
Hey, look at my avatar, nice right? I drew it with my own hands holding the mouse in Paint, with the pencil tool(and the Filling tool!)!
It's a picture of me in Planet Stooopid, where everything is the same as what you call "Earth" except that we are called "aliens" in your planet.
Anyway, I warned you not waste time reading my signature! You have just wasted probably about 30 seconds reading it, where you could have spent the time doing better things, like maybe reading the next post below if there is one...

I'm assuming you have at least a broadband connection. There is no delay for me, although I pick the stations for my type of connection. Might want ot try optimizing your setitngs, for example, if your connection is 768/128 in the setting of the plaer where it says max download/upload you'd put in those numbers. It's different, Cable and DSL and Satellite have their own setings, but I hope to hell you aern't using 56k. I know it's an option for people but I mean, can't badmouth 56k. At least it gets you online. I never use WMP. I use RealPlayer for Railroad Radio and MusicMatch Jukebox for everythign else. I hate WMP

RE: OT Internet Radio

Well, think how large this radio station is, one MP3 is about 5 MB's, and a radio plays countless Audio Tracks. How long does it take for you to upload a photo. There is lag, right? It takes time to upload anything to the internet, of course it's going to be slower. And unless you listen to a Stereo and a PC at the same time, there really isn't a problem.

The delay is not on your end OR the transmitting end. The delay is in the internet, itself. It doesn't matter what kind of connection you have. When an internet radio station broadcasts a program or music, the transmission is broken up into thousands of small packets which are dumped onto the net. There is no guarantee that all these packets will follow the same path to your PC. The packets get scattered all over the country (world) while being routed to your PC. These packets will not arrive in the order they were sent. The software you use (winamp, WMP, RealBAD, or SLOWtime) sorts these packets into the correct order and must wait to receive packets that fill holes in the sequence. It is this packet scattering and heavy traffic on the net that causes the delays.Cal Rasmussen
