Can someone tell me if there are any good spots to photograph Rockville Bridge near Harrisburg? I will heading to Maryland for the holiday weekend tommorow, and if I have time, I want to stop and photograph the bridge. It will probally be early-late afternoon, so any spots will have to be looking at the bridge from the south, not the north. Thanks in advance.Chris Bogley tailsnrails@hotmail.com Syracuse New York www.tailsnrails.com
Hi Chris,I know that there are good spots to photograph the "Rock" from both the east and west shores of the Susquehanna river, from the south. I can't tell you the exact spots or how to find them because I've not had the opportunity yet to go up to the Rock and take some shots. I only live about forty minutes away, in Hershey, PA. That's to the east of Harrisburg. Anyways, I know that I've seen some excellent shots from the south towards the bridge on railpictures.net, and so if you can find a place where you can view the bridge on either shore, it'll be your best bet, IMO. I wish I could help you more (I have lived in this area all my life and been by the Rock dozens of times), but since I've only gotten serious about railfanning in the past six months, I have only have the opportunity to do some photographing east of Harrisburg, not yet west and north towards Enola yard and the Rock. That is my goal for a few weeks from now .Good luck, and enjoy the area as you pass through!

Chris...it has been at least 7 or 8 years since I last visited the bridge and as my memory is going fast I may be leading you astray. If you are on the west (Enola) side of the river go north on US11/15 (Enola Road) to the town of Summerdale and you should see the west approach to the bridge. If you are on the east side (Harrisburg) of the river go north on Front Street. When you go under "The Bridge" take a right on the first street north of bridge and go up to the main line. You will be about 50 yards north of the bridge junction. Be careful as you will be on railroad property if you get to close to "Main"! If these directions lead you astray I'm sure my ears will burn and so I apologize NOW!

Take it from me, I know. It cost me $93.00 to find out the hard way. And people wonder why I hate 'fanning NS!
