It will run on a laptop, however the requirements for the game, you may find, will be a lot higher and its also not as enjoyable, given its probably a 14" TFT screen with bad audio. You'd need at least a 1.4Ghz notebook with 256mb DDR RAM and somekind of geforce 4go thing or something. Will train sim run on a laptop – image 2~The only way to ship~

Hey, I always play my Train Sim on my 2.0 GHZ Laptop with a 15 in screen and a crappy ATI card. MY game is choppy alot, becasue I use virtual memory for the ram. But, I still enjoy the game.

RE: Will train sim run on a laptop

Of course it will run on a laptop. If it didn't I'd never (well...hardly ever) accept the kind of international assignments I get handed to me!Not just any laptop, though. You need the same kind of power as a desktop. Mine's a 2.5 GHz P4, 512 MB RAM, 32 MB graphics card, etc. etc. purchased at the hometown Gateway store -- best bang for the buck at the time. Also use it for all my modeling projects up to and including steam locomotives (see the current Screen Shot Forum).Rick Grout

I run Train Sim on my laptop, and it works just fine. I have a Dell Inspiron 8000: 900Mhz P3, 40GB hard drive, 512MB RAM, and a 32MB video card.
Some routes, like Conrail Indy will run kind of slow on it, but most routes run at a decent 20-30 fps. As mentioned earlier, the audio is no good on a laptop, but I bought external speakers for mine, so that helps some.Jordan L.

RE: Will train sim run on a laptop

Just got a Dell Inspiron 8600 Centrino 1.6GHz with 128Meg nvidia video card. MSTS works great! Haven't even tinkered with it yet and framerates from 30 - 50 fps. All sliders on full and only dynamic shadows unchecked. Much better than the old system, Inspiron 3800 600Mhz Celeron with 8Meg ATI Rage video card. Frames rates from 3 -15 fps with a lot of sliders set low.Rob "Zeke" ZychOshawa,Ont.

RE: Will train sim run on a laptop

It looks like my laptop so far is the most low-end device in the
list... I run MSTS on a Toshiba Satellite 3000-100, 850 MHz P3,
128 MB RAM, 16 MB GeForce2Go, and the standard routes work fine
at either 1024x768 with lower details (but still a decent level
of detail and high visibility) or 800x600 at more detail (not
full detail, though). Of course it's no use trying to play
activities with a large amount of other traffic moving around...PvF

RE: Will train sim run on a laptop

I have used two laptops quite successfully. The first was an old Toshiba TE2000 (1.2G with 512Mb memory, 16 of which was shared as video). It worked OK, with low frame rates on some routes and with some locos and rolling stock. I used headphones (the family complained when I used the 5.1 sound system with the subwoofer turned up!!!)The second is a Toshiba A20 (3.06G with 768 memory, 32 of which is shared video). It is better, bit not dramatically.I think that the key is the viseo card - the bigger the better (I know that is a generalisation, so I hope that the others in the forum don't get upset with that statement). So laptops are OK with MSTS - you might have to adjust some of the settings, e.g. turn off shadows and reduce the visibility distance).Have fun.

I love MSTS on my laptop! It works great! So much so I decided to wait on getting a new desktop. The great thing is that you can take the game with you wherever. I even plan on playing train sim when I take the real Southwest Chief during Christmas break. I'll see which one can get a better on time performance, the real train or my activity. RE: Will train sim run on a laptop

It will run, barely, on a Gateway with a Celetron 400 with a built in 4meg ATI graphic card and 192meg ram. RE will not run even though the card will display 1024x768.SRV Ron

RE: Will train sim run on a laptop

I have Train Sim installed on two different laptops here. ONe is a 433MHz AMD and the other is only a year old and I forget the MHz rating. The display is not the best but it is still fun. I cannot use the Editors on the 433 as my display is not large enough. Other than that i am happy.
