Dec-07-01, 01:08 PM (EST) 2. "RE: Aurans TRAINZ just arrived!" But, this is strange....On the box of the package I can read only Microsoft Train Simulator (and not Kuju Train Simulator).Or, if you for example buy a car and the brakes doesn't work properly and you go to the dealer where you bougth the car, will he tell you: Oh the brakes are from other manufacturer, this is no my bussines, go to the brake manufacturer with your complaints, bye, bye...? I bet, you will never buy a car with this brand. Why should I excuse Microsoft for such behavior?

I buy an HP computer(Kuju) at Best Buy(MS) and the HP computer(Kuju) is missing the sound card. Is it Best Buy's(MS) fault? No.Your car example doesn't fit this logic. Dec-08-01, 08:49 AM (EST) 12. "RE: Aurans TRAINZ just arrived!" So switch to red hat linux and quit bothering us with this anti-MS krap! BTW tell me how well Trainz (or most other game software) runs under Linux.... or OS-X or C64 for that matter...
BTW I thought we had all agreed that all this product evangelizing would cease and Trainz "stuff" would be posted on the Trainz forum and MSTS "stuff" would be posted on the MSTS Forums???? There is room in the community for both and all this (Trainz/MSTS) or (MS/KUJU/Space Aliens) screwed us smacks of a bunch of immature kids who are jealous over someone else's accomplishments trying to prove who can pee higher on the tree!
If you can do better do so! If you don't like MSTS/Trainz OK don't buy it.... Otherwise shutup and leave the rest of us out of it..... May be we can get Nels to open a special forum for you guys so you can try to impress each other with your whining and leave the rest of us alone!!!!

Dec-08-01, 10:38 AM (EST) 18. "RE: Aurans TRAINZ just arrived!" Nope not new to pc's. First one was an Apple II in I believe 1978. Switched over to IBM machines around 1988. I own a lot of MS products and have the same frustrations as others. Except for the uncoupling and front coupling bugs, what everyone else complains about is along the line of personalizing the software to them. Sure, I'd like the route editors to work a certain way that would better fit me. But that may not work for thousands of others. I adapt to the softwares strengths and weaknesses and send in suggestions for improvement to the software manufacturer. I don't just complain to people on a board that no more have the ability to fix things in MSTS(or any other software package) than you or I.David Klemm

Not a flash.. 2 days straight now..on and off ive had surveyor on..still sweet..Its sure hasnt shown me the problems MSTS editors did, And a patch 2 weeks after release is a god send.. heard from MS about a patch yet ?? hmm ?? I know they never replied to me...Instead of wasting your typing energy on the Non exsistant debate over Trainz vs MSTS.. Why dont you lobby MS ? Use Auran as an example ? .. Say to them "Hey..these guys are only new and allready there serving there customers with a 'service pack'." "Whens yours coming Billy Gate Gruff?"I would, But after MSTS wiped my O\S.. Dec-07-01, 11:01 PM (EST) 7. "RE: Aurans TRAINZ just arrived!" Whatever else you say about the products, it's clear that Auran listens to and directly supports their customer community while MS could give a damn.Even the strongest of us MSTS supporters would have been happy if MS had released an MSTS patch after two weeks. God knows MSTS needs it. You should try Trainz before you compare. Your comments are ill-informed. You do not, for example, have to pay for each of the three initial modules separately.Do you own and have you developed for each product? Some of us have. Try it and then tell us what you think of the support.Regards,

Dec-08-01, 04:28 AM (EST) 9. "RE: Aurans TRAINZ just arrived!" Get the facts about things before you make your stupid comments about trainz, do you even know much about the program? if you didn you wouldn't be saying this damn crap.First off this was an early release to the trainz community, nice on their behalf to give us this chance to get it before it hits the shelfs in a couple of months, it is good for developers also so they can develope the addons so a wealth of stuff is ready when the program does hit the shelf, releasing a service pack (it isn't just a patch.... I've talked to John about it and there is more to it then just a patch) shows that they keep working on it and improving it, Kuju could have released a patch a couple weeks after the release of MSTS but did they? know they did not! get a refund on your brain because yours is broke. And to others, Kuju programed the game MS sent it out into the world so the bugs are Kuju fault, Neither Kuju or MS cares about the MSTS world that much either though if they did they would have at least gave us some sort of info that they would be trying to fix the problems in MSTS but it isn't going to happen.

Dec-08-01, 09:57 AM (EST) 15. "RE: Aurans TRAINZ just arrived!" I too think it was nice of Auran to release the game to the Trainz community in advance. They now have a whole load of new beta testers out there. It will be interesting to see whether the programs that appears in the stores next year is the same as you are using. If it is not it will also be interesting to see if they send you all a new copy. Good on them if they do as that is good customer service. Start shouting and hollering if they don't.Bill Remove | Alert Edit | Reply | Reply With Quote | Top

Dec-08-01, 10:03 AM (EST) 16. "RE: Aurans TRAINZ just arrived!" It is like a big beta testing thing in away :p from now and tell it hits the shelfs they are able to listen and find out problems then work at how to fix them as they have done so it will be more ready when it does hit the shelfs! We just get an earlier version really... but we will get all the updates and service packs of course that will make it just like the ones that will go on the shelfs! :p I'm glad they went ahead and did do this special release! I didn't really want to wait a couple more months.

Dec-08-01, 10:30 AM (EST) 17. "RE: Aurans TRAINZ just arrived!" What you are saying in essence is you are paying about $50.00 USD for the privilege of being a beta tester for a new product. Beta testers usually don't pay for their test release. If developers are paying for the "privilege" of creating new add-ons for Trainz before a general public release of Trainz, to insure there is something to use with the game when it releases sounds equally brain-dead. Essentially your paying for the privilege of being an unpaid employee of Auran in order to ensure the marketing success of their new product. It's your right to think this is a great arrangement, there's nothing wrong with my disagreeing. Remove | Alert Edit | Reply | Reply With Quote | Top

Dec-08-01, 11:32 AM (EST) 20. "RE: Aurans TRAINZ just arrived!" People do pay to beta test first off. Also what is wrong with developers getting a head start on developing addons for a game like this? addons in the train sim world are what makes a game fcking great! wouldn't you like to have nice addons ready for that newly released game?? don't give me any crap like "I wouldn't buy it if I had to go get addons to make it good" because you got those free addons for MSTS to improve it to your liking. We got an early release it is after beta and we will get all the updates and patches so it will be the same as the one that will hit the shelfs, don't be so stupid! this isn't some little buggy under developed pile of crap code beta... it is the real damn thing! and it is giving auran a chance to get a little insight about any problems that may have got past the beta testers so they can make it better for the one that will hit the shelfsThose people will be happy they don't have to deal with some of the little small problems that most first release software does.
>What you are saying in essence

>Beta testers usually don't pay
>for their test release.
I would have loved to been already developing my addons for Trainz awhile ago and I would have liked to been working at it when MSTS came out so screw you, this is giving us developers a head start before it his the mass market! people don't want to wait around for the locomotive they like to get made so this also is giving us a chance to make it so they wont have to wait around.Groups like TA are working hard also to get their addons into trainz, as in the MSTS world in trainz there will be a lot of addons that will make people happy because they will be able to get the addon they want rather then being stuck with the default locomotives.
So like you said we are all a bunch of bread dead developers because we paid to get a head start on developing our addons for trainz opps we are so brain dead maybe we shouldn't even make these addons? then you would be stuck with the default engines or the payware engines! so piss the hell off. Be glad developers are so willing and wanitng to develope the damn addons in the first place and for free even!

>Doesn't mater what I say though I'm just a brain-dead developer, maybe I should go walk out in the tracks and wait for the pretty train to come. The companys work hard to make the program and the 3rd party developers work hard to make the free addons, this stuff doesn't happen over night. So you and your whole damn kind stop ragging on us developers and what not for wanting to develope for the program "Trainz" or for wanting to get a head start developing addons so when people buy the program they can be happy because they wouldn't be stuck with just the standerd things in the game.

Dec-08-01, 05:44 PM (EST) 22. "RE: Aurans TRAINZ just arrived!" >People do pay to beta test first off. Beta tests are usually conducted by testers under NDA's using gratis test versions. Who pays to Beta test software? If you know a specific product or example I'd like to hear it, it would be educational to me.>Also what is wrong with developers getting a head start on developing addons for a game like this?I never said there is anything wrong with developers getting a head start building add-ons, what I did say is that needing to purchase a early beta version to then develop free add-ons for the pre-release product to increase it's retail marketability reduces you to no more than an unpaid employee of Auran. I think that all of the add-on products are great. I also notice that most freeware developers create their products for the love of the hobby and include copyright notices about not including their work for commercial use. Auran appears to be using the availability of your add-ons to market the sale of their final retail version by using your freeware add-ons as one of the selling points. If Microsoft were to market MSTS by advertising all of the great freeware addins that have been made available as a selling point for the game, without having to compensate any of the same developers for their product additions, developers would probably be rightfully angry about it.>We got an early release it
>is after beta and we
>will get all the updates
>and patches so it will
>be the same as the
>one that will hit the
>shelfs, don't be so stupid!
>this isn't some little buggy
>under developed pile of crap
>code beta... Uh, yes the early release does appear to be just what you called it. The quote below is from Trainz forum talking about the first service patch that is scheduled for release just 2 weeks after purchasing the community edition.>For example SP1 increases Trainz performance by up to 20%,
>adds DirectX support, includes a new item of rolling stockYou can put any spin on this that you want, one way of viewing it is the product is being released in an unfinished state and over time we will be providing the updates and additions that the initial product should have released with right out of the box, but didn't. A 20% performance increase, (in other words the application in the box is 20% slower in performance than it should have been.) DirectX support and new rolling stock, things that could have been included in the original box but because were rushing it out the door they weren't. >is giving auran a chance
>to get a little insight
>about any problems that may
>have got past the beta
>testers so they can make
>it better for the one
>that will hit the shelfs This is exactly the point of beta testing, which is what you are still doing for Auran, your just not honest enough to admit it.>people don't want to wait around for the locomotive they like
>to get made so this also is giving us a chance to make it so
>they wont have to wait around.

>Groups like TA are working hard also to get their addons
>into trainz, as in the MSTS world in trainz there will be a lot of addons that will make people happy because they will be
>able to get the addon they want rather then being stuck with the default locomotives. So what your saying again is that Auran is depending on the Trainz developer community to create the freeware add-in products in order for Auran to be able to market and sell their product, otherwise users will be "stuck with the default locomotives" that Auran has created. (Which we have already seen are pretty bad by comparison.) >So like you said we are all a bunch of bread dead developers because we paid to get a head start
>on developing our addons for trainz opps we are so
>brain dead maybe we shouldn't even make these addons? No, actually those are entirely your own words. Unlike your self and your following post I haven't resorted to personal insults because of a lack of intelligent reason. While I think Trainz does have its shortcomings (So does MSTS! ), I think your ranting about the bugs and the need for a service pack is a bit unjustified. I get the impression that the "Community Edition" is really a type of sneak preview for fans of the game and the service packs will be free. The fully finished first version will be the one that hits retail shelves in February.--

Dec-08-01, 09:17 PM (EST) 24. "RE: Aurans TRAINZ just arrived!" microsoft and apple do sell their betas.....Also a lot of products get released buggy then provide fixes after people start complaining about this or that problem, does this mean all of those releases are really "betas" opps guess we can't complain then about our "beta" software MSTS! hey I wonder when they will start trying to fix the bugs so they can update our betas. That means I paid for a beta when I got win95, I paid for a beta when I get win98, I paid for a beta when I got msts! hmm wait I can't think of anything else that was so buggy that I was hoping wishing and praying for a patch! the Auran Jet engine is an opengl system not directX! so what is wrong with them desiding to take the turn and get directx into the game so more people can use it?They aren't using us to sell their products, our addons wont be in the ads for trainz, I don't know where you ever got the idea for that? I think people would be happy though if their addon got shown in an ad for Trainz, making these addons doesn't have to do anything with money a lot of us aren't out to get rich! some of them would turn down donations and everything. IT IS BECAUSE WE AREN'T MAKING ADDONS FOR THE MONEY like you seem to think that we are idiots because we are making free addons that could help the game."I make my living as a professional software developer" I feel sorry for the place you work at....

Dec-08-01, 11:10 PM (EST) 26. "RE: Aurans TRAINZ just arrived!" >microsoft and apple do sell their betas..... Really, Ok which Microsoft beta pre-release software did you ever pay full price for. I'd honestly like to know. If your referring to the public previews of Windows XP they were charging only a nominal fee for shipping and media and they were time controlled to expire at the conclusion of the preview period.>Also a lot of products get released buggy then provide fixes
>after people start complaining about this or that problem, does this mean all of those releases are really "betas" opps
>guess we can't complain then about our "beta" software MSTS!
>hey I wonder when they will start trying to fix the bugs so they can update our betas. Now if you really are as ignorant as your acting about the difference between pre-release beta software, lacking final release feature sets and post release final software that contains bugs, your ignorance can be excused for lack of experience or education in such matters.>They aren't using us to sell their products, our addons wont
>be in the ads for trainz, I don't know where you ever got the idea for that? I never said they were going to physically put your add-ins directly in their ads, clearly I was talking way above your head with concepts you can't seem to grasp.Simply, try to comprehend this now, they are expanding their market and ability to sell more of their product by expanding the amount of free add-ins that will be available at the initial release. You can't use any of the great free add-ins developers are creating with out first buying copies of Aurans product. This way they don't have to hire their own staff to create the engines and other rolling stock the game should have. They get the community to do it for them at no expense to them and profit from the increased sales of their product to take advantage of your superior free add-ons. It's actually a shrewd marketing move to be admired.>IT IS BECAUSE WE AREN'T MAKING ADDONS FOR THE MONEY like you seem to think that we are idiots because we are making free addons that could help the game. No, re-read my posts in this thread, I never said that, YOU keep saying that. I respect and fully support the developers who create free add-ons for the enjoyment of the community, your the one that keeps disparaging them and referring to them as idiots. >EvilDarkCow = Brain Dead Developer That's the signature YOU chose for yourself. I'm not talking about windowxp here as I stoped giving a fcking damn about MS OSs after win2k.... and this is the real thing with got with trainz. not some crappy little buggy beta that will expire... what is wrong with paying full price for a program I will pay full price for anyone in a couple of months? The Trainz crew is working all the time on making addons, I do not see Kuju working on making addons? please send me to a news post or whatever where kuju talks about this or that engine pack they will be releasing to us and to use the MSTS addons you have to buy the game itself! They had the game ready that is why they released it and there is nothing wrong with them keep working on it to provide a bug fix other companys have brang out bug fixes within the first month of the release of the software. I'm still waiting for my MSTS Patch??I didn't have to get MSTS I got it for the addons so I could run my fav engines and stuff.... what is wrong with having addons? in a way MS provided those developer tools to help sell their product...

Is this bad in a company? because that seems to be what a lot of complaining is about, the fact that they are going to release a patch? is that such a horrid thing? are you going to start trash talking every company that releases a patch! and with betas the beta tester group may be to small to catch every little damn problem and some people will let things slide by while others wouldn't so don't complain and btch about Auran because they are there for their users!Where has Kuju been for us? where are they letting us know they are even doing anything? for all we know they are out banging slutty whores and throwing money at them....Trainz may not be all some may have wanted it to be, but you know what? what game really is all you wanted it to be? at least they are working to improve it so it becomes more of what we want! Rather then just what they are happy with. they could have just released the parts they have now and stoped working on it, but they keep working on it and for that I think they are a great company.

Dec-09-01, 02:00 AM (EST) 29. "RE: Where " LAST EDITED ON Dec-09-01 AT 02:22 AM (EST)They are still improving it, because they haven't finished version 1.0 yet. The point of my posts has never been over whether or not they are going to release a patch or not. Frankly, I still don't care. The point, since you failed to catch it, is that the "Community Edition" is nothing more than a pre-release beta copy that they are charging users full price for to help them iron out the bugs. They are also using this to increase market share by having the community build a large base of free add-ins at no expense to them. That's all there is to it. If you don't mind paying full price for the privilege of beta testing their product, then go for it. Thats all. Finally End of Topic. Remove | Alert Edit | Reply | Reply With Quote | Top

Dec-09-01, 02:16 AM (EST) 30. "RE: Where " What's wrong? ending it so early??They are still working on it because they want to improve it unlike some companys who just released their train sim and showed no signs of even giving a damn about it anymore.Hey win95 worked but MS kept working on that and came out with new versions of win95 then win98 and then winme... and so on hey why don't they bring out a decent os that wont need updating then? they must not be a very good company if they can't get it right the first time....What it is now is just the start of things to come, a lot of companys don't stop at version 1! they keep working on it providing updates and bringing out new versions.TheSims had what 3 addon packs now? does that make them bad also that they didn't get it all into the first release.... what about C&C? there have been a lot of those games an addons... guess they didn't get it good enough in release 1 either! Diable had an addon, die by the sword had an addon, rainbow 6 had an addon, duke nukem had addons.... half-life quake! they both had mods and such.... see what I am getting at? just because a software is released doesn't mean people shouldn't keep working on it to improve it! Where is Kuju though? aren't they going to provide us with some addons? some patches? whatever! they seemed to have just released it and that was that, what is so good about that? that you have to trash other companys for keep working and improving their program! If Kuju went and took the time to work out and add everything about Railroading into MSTS they would still be working on it and they would be working on it for awhile.... You seem to trash Auran more because of the way they do things, they do things different and better though then most do. I guess something so new something so different and something so good is just so far away from you that all you can do is hate it because you can't have it.I've got tell Kuju releases a patch to sit here and carry on these post. So bring it on!

Trainz will be releasing version 1.0 in Feb 2002, (that's what I heard, if wrong I stand corrected.)

Nothing wrong with that either. Companys do it, they start selling the version 1.1 cd rather then the version 1 cd.... or provide the patch on the cd.

>Professional) (Glad to see the subject change!)In agreement, XP is designed as both a version upgrade to Win 2000 and Win ME. There will never be another Win 9.x release, the upgrade path for Win 9.x users is through the Windows XP Home edition. Windows XP Pro is intended as a version upgrade for Windows 2000, though Windows 98 and ME users can also upgrade to it. The kernel change to the Win2000/NT kernel is what makes XP such a compelling upgrade. The unified code base for all future Windows versions will lead to better applications and stability for all Windows users.

LOL And you do not think that you are beta testing MSTS? Get real. The main differance here is that if anything gets added to the final of Trainz I can download it for FREE, but when the new items get added to MSTS and the bugs get fixed it will be called MSTS 2 and will cost you another 50.00, so you will be paying to beta test over and over yet I will only pay once Remove | Alert Edit | Reply | Reply With Quote | Top

Dec-08-01, 05:12 AM (EST) 11. "RE: Aurans TRAINZ just arrived!" LAST EDITED ON Dec-08-01 AT 05:13 AM (EST)I think those of you who are having problems with MSTS really need to look at the configuration of your own systems. I have a PII400, 320mb RAM, 48GB total hard disk (8gb + 40gb) & a GeForce 2 MX. I also run Windows 98 SE with all the latest drivers and patches for the OS and my hardware. With this configuration, MSTS has only crashed three times when I haven't installed something properly (either a route or rolling stock). After I fixed what I did wrong, everything runs fine. As for the editors, I haven't really bothered using them as I am more interested in doing 3D models when I get TSM.

Dec-10-01, 07:58 AM (EST) 34. "RE: Aurans TRAINZ just arrived!" Gee Fellas
I am really so sorry to have set this thing off!
I really was in "tongue in cheek mode" and am just as happy as everyone else to give up DOS and use a friendly windows format.
Despite all the bugs and problems
My few weeks playing MSTS does not give me the right to knock it, and cause all the above anger, in forums that I have found to be very friendly and helpfull.
So I guess I am asking for this thread to die, and we all get back to normal.
By the way, the Community Version of the game is all three sections and at $100 Australian, I guess that equates to about $45 US. All add ons and extras necessary to upgrade to the final edition, will be free. Auran are just saying thanks for your support, and by the way, have you got any comments ,or changes, you would like to make...Should we change anything?
WE are sort of Beta testing it, but we are guaranteed the full working copy, that goes into the shops...cool eh?
comtrain. Now if I can find a Trainz site.....
