Dec-04-01, 01:57 PM (EST) "O/T: Paypal and consorts...which is best?" Hi folks,
I have been thinking about getting at least one of 3D Trains' F-unit sets, and am quite sure of getting Clem Tillier's TGV as soon as it comes out. However, I am a) living in Germany and b) do not have a credit card (as a poor college student ), so the possibly only acceptable way of payment would be to go via Paypal or one of those similar services - such as swreg.com.What I'd like to ask those who know some things about these methods is which service you could recommend to me most. Please note that, as stated above, I'm from Germany.
Hope to get some opinions from you...
Best,

I use Paypal for a few net subscriptions and have used it to pay for items, no problems (but that's through the credit card). You will have to read through Patpal's site to see to see if they have a non plastic pay option. I hope that helps.

Dec-04-01, 05:30 PM (EST) 2. "RE: O/T: Paypal and consorts...which is best?" I have three methods at hand: PayPal; SWREG; and normal banking merchant account. At the moment, only the PayPal method is active at 3DTrains.PayPal (http://www.paypal.com) appears to be one of the best routes, but doesn't cover all - plus it sometimes causes problems for some folks. Not there's anything wrong with the user's card, but rather PayPal's methods for identifiying bona-fide customers is sticky at best. PayPal accepts most forms of payments including cards, personal bank account transfers (not recommended IMHO), PayPal account transfers, etc. Full account history and stats voia website and/or download.SWREG (http://www.swreg.org) caters to more card customers throughout the world (IMHO), and is very thorough in it's verification process. SWREG original started from a consortium of shareware developers residing on Compu$erve. The program is very successful, but as far as I can tell, only accepts credit cards (real time), cyber cheque, as well as PayPal account payments. Full accounting stats available via website. Our own merchant account, which I had hoped to have up and running by now, accepts all the above, but costs me a pretty penny each month (plus transactions). Plus the fact that I have to do a lot of leg work in the accounting process, makes me think it might be best to lay this account to rest.Hopefully, the above info will help you. Cheers!

However, I've had a PayPal account for a couple of years. I use it mostly for auction items but have also used it for some of these shareware programs and things which are around. I've never had even a moments hassle using it. I like it; when I pay for something the person gets notified by PayPal, not by me. They send him notice and a billing address; even shipping instructions if needed. And in a way the payment is guaranteed. PayPal requires a credit card (major; Visa, Mastercard) and they check your credit and your card. Mine comes right out of my bank account so when I press the pay button I don't even have it on a cc bill. Remove | Alert Edit | Reply | Reply With Quote | Top
