RailDriver Sound issue – image 1

LAST EDITED ON Oct-13-03 AT 01:22 AM (EDT)

Hey all.
Do any of you guys who own a raildriver notice an odd sound that occurs while running with a raildriver. It slows down the sound streaming in MSTS and makes a very hard to describe noise.(not a constant one, just a short every few second one.)I only get this while using raildriver and any locomotive- be it default, MLT, anything. If I run msts with out RD it sounds perfect. I have never noticed this before. It gets annoying after a while- I reinstalled the latest RD drivers.
I've tried most things I can think of.
Im not sure wheter to email RD over it.(if no one knows whats up i will.)If any of you guys know a fix to this any help would be greatly appreciated.
Thanks
Edit: I thought i should add this... I do not have the sound running thru the RD subwoofer. I just play it out of the normal computer speakers. I've tried with a microphone head set too, and sound still occurs.

RE: RailDriver Sound issue

Is it choppy audio? If so, I had the same problem until I changed the parse interval to a lower setting. Now the audio is almost totally clean. If you search for "Raildriver" and "parse interval", you should find posts detailing this on the fora. -Jeff

Thanks Jeff.
I changed the Parse Interval to 10 in the DEF file. Is that the correct file?
If it is I've noticed no change att all i'd say its Choppy audio- The sound doesn't run smoothly.
I don't know why it does this... It never did before.

Found out the Parse interval thing.
Making it 10 does not fix the sound prob.I even uninstalled and reinstalled RD. No change. The minute i open the RD window it starts and the minute it closes it goes away.
So eighter its a sound card issue or the Raildriver. But it baffles me how it never had this problem before...

RE: RailDriver Sound issue

Maybe it's some kind of resonance coming over the USB line from the RailDriver. Have you tried running your speakers through the RD's subwoofer and see if that cures it? (On mine you can adjust the RD's speaker down to no RD sound/no vibrtation, and I've noticed no degradation of sound to my speakers.)Also, have you tried plugging/unplugging the speaker's power supply? According to the documentation there's no need to have it plugged in if you're not running the subwoofer. You might want to try getting some ferrite chokes at Radio Shack and use them on the RD's USB line, and see if that cures it. If you have a USB port on the front of your computer as well as the back, try shifting the RailDriver there and see if that changes anything.I'm just guessing in the dark here; I haven't had problem one with mine since I got it. (But I do use and run the subwoofer when TSing.)

>RD unit, I don't see how this could possibly be the problem. I'm not saying the RD unit audio is causing the problem. But if the unit is plugged in and not connected it could be generating a birdie. It's more likely to be a cabling issue. If his trouble disappears when the RD is disconnected, and appears when connected, then the problem is either with the raildriver or cable (or poor shielding somewhere else being aggravated by it.)Or, since we don't know the ram and processor speed, it just may be too much CPU load causing a glitch, since he seems to be saying that it's when RD manager is started that the problem begins. At any rate, since nobody has chimed in with a "Me, too!" it may just be specific to this case. Emailing RD sounds like the right move.

If your audio was functioning properly previously while running RD, I'm stumped.Possibly the audio files became fragmented? A fragmented audio file could cause jumpy playback due to disk access times. It would have to be pretty fragmented though. Have you tried a defrag lately?-Jeff

I think a Defrag was done a few weeks ago...
I could do one again.
Today i'm going to record audio from MSTS with the prob. Then email it to Raildriver.I've tried running RD thru the subwoofer as well. Eighter way it doesnt work...Thanks guys

RE: RailDriver Sound issue

Hi,Just spotted this post!Ok, adjusting the Parseinterval can help, the trouble is the way we have to work with MSTS, we have to go through several processes to get the feedback required to work properly as a game device, the way we do this is not really what one would call "Standard" since MSTS wasnt designed to work with external hardware.A few people have had this issue and generally adjusting the parseinterval can improve things by varying degrees on different machines, we have not isolated this to any particualr cause since adjustments on some machines are better than others and we have no common reason for this issue to be occurring. We do not hav ethis issue with Trainz nor are we likely to have it in MSTS2 since due to MSTS2's open architecture, this will allow us to "Plug in" directly to the game and not have to do things the way we are with MSTS.Whilst we are looking into potential causes for this issue we are currently in a situation where there is no "Pattern" or particualr machine setup which causes htis to occur so finding a cause is very difficult, Graphics settings alterations can help in some instances so can altering your sound setup, using the "Loadallwavs" switch has also helped some people. Please feel free to drop me an email Tim

Hi,I've got exactly the same problem with odd sounds and very jerky graphic when I activate raildriver.
For me it started when I changed from Windows ME to XP.I have tried the following without any success:Made a new clean install of Win XP.
New install of MSTS.
New install of Raildriver.
Tried two different soundcards + onboard soundcard.
Tried every USB port.I have noticed that when i check the framerate with Shift+Z it is the same as it used to be but the graphics stop every time there is a scratch in the sound (which is very often).I have been running Raildriver without any problems since it came on
the market, so I really hope there is a solution to this new problem.
