Hi; Something I saw today. Some gaming company is putting out a game system called N-Gage (for Engage). Why would they bother to spend large sums of $$$s to promote this name when N-Gauge is a world-wide term already in use? The power of marketting screws up again!
Anyway, Cheers All; Chuck F.

RE: N-Gauge??N-Gage??

Actually N-Gauge is a term used mostly by the folks who know squat about model railroading. Any model railroader whould use the term N Scale. N scale railroads can use any of several gauges. Gauges are standard, narrow, meter, etc. The one exception is G-Guage which is the one case where several scales are used with the same track to create standard or narrow guage equivelents. Z, N, HO, TT, S, and O are scales not guages. However with toy trains gauge is used. Be Seeing you.

Hi; I've always used N-Gauge because there is a big difference between scale and gauge. N-gauge track can be used for multiple scales. Anyway, most marketting companies go out of there way to ensure there is no conflict with similar sounding names, or names that can be misunderstood in another language. It just bugs me, that's all. RE: N-Gauge??N-Gage??

This Engauge, being advertised like crazy on Tech TV and other cable channels, has nothing to do with model railroading, is a new phone based gaming system. First time that I heard about it was last night on Tech TV and in this post. There seems to be little other info about it other then several very popular first and third person games are being ported over to it.SRV Ron

RE: N-Gauge??N-Gage??

Nokia N-Gage is a cell phone, mini video game player with on line capability, and entertainment center. It combines PDA, MP3, E-Mail browsing, radio, and has Bluetooth connectivity. It started being presented with an advertising blitz to generate interest in it.However, reading the reviews on this device, it comes up short on capabilities when compared to dedicated devices. As a phone, it is quite bulky, but can be used anywhere in the world where cell service is available. Game display is small 176x208 which makes it cramped on first person shooters. As a recording device, it is lacking in quality. Still, it is being promoted for the gamer as a mobile package. No doubt, this new toy is aimed at the tech types with deep pockets. I shutter to think what their cell phone bill will be if they use this device daily to surf the web, play games online, and travel a lot, once the free trial usage period is up.SRV Ron

For the cost ($300 to 400), I would not get it. Popular Science isn't fond of it either...

This is the Orange Line train bound for Pattison, the next stop is Walnut-Locust, stand clear of the closing doors.

"Why would they bother to spend large sums of $$$s to promote this name when N-Gauge is a world-wide term already in use?"I think maybe you are getting "term" and "copyright" mixed up? Using an already existing "term" in regards to product naming is amazingly common. Look at automobile names.-Jeff
