Nov-18-01, 05:49 AM (EST) "Tech question" Do I need a 4mb or better graphics card? The website says:
Multimedia PC with a Pentium II 266 MHz equivalent or higher processor with 4 MB 3D video hardware acceleration or better, or a Pentium II 350 MHz equivalent or higher processor.I read that as If I have a faster cpu than 350mhz I dont need it. Am i right because I want to go buy it but dont want to since I dont have a 4mb or greater card.Any help would be fantastic
Cheers

You definitely need at least the video card: With a 4MB video card and a 266MHz processor you could run the game just barely and the scenery would be nonexistant and you would have frame rates around 1/second.Realistic system minimum specs for running game with no scenery:
Pentium 2(or celeron) 350MHZ+
16MB Voodoo 3 2000 graphics card
128+ MB RAM
Monitor capable of 1024x768x16 or better resolutions
10 GB free HD space (this is if you want to use any engines or
routes other than the default ones that come with MSTS)
Ten tons of computer troubleshooting knowhowRealistic system minimum specs for having scenery on are:Pentium 3 500+MHz processor (preferably much +)
a 32MB or 64MB GeForce2 or GeForce3 graphics card.
192+ MB RAM
Monitor cabable of 1024x768x32 or better resolutions
10GB free HD space (this is if you want to use any engines or
routes other than the default ones that come with MSTS)
Five tons of computer troubleshooting knowhowIt is important to note that at this time you can get a GeForce 2 MX 32MB PCI video card for the same amount of money as the game costs ($50 US), and any game you get at the store today will also require as much. Just make sure your computer can take PCI cards as opposed to SCSI. The third, and most common, variety of cards you would see at the store is AGP but only newer computers than yours can take those. If you are strapped for cash and MUST have this game, like me , you might just buy the card and the game for $100. If you really want it to look nice spend $700 and buy a piece of junk computer (using your existing monitor). It will be a piece of junk by todays standards but far outshine what you have now.-Andy

Nov-23-01, 06:29 PM (EST) 3. "RE: Tech question" I started out with an 8 MB ATI Card, downloaded a different driver. It ran jerky afterwards. I went out and bought a 32MB ATI card for $72 and added a 128MB Ram stick to my 96 MB for $32.
It runs great now getting better than 30 f/p/s with sliders to max. Occassionally it will drop down to 10; but not very often!Alex Remove | Alert Edit | Reply | Reply With Quote | Top
