For some odd reason my homepage somehow changed to www.passthison.com and at the top it had "Homepage Network to Subsidize Free Software and Content. I have never been to the site, I do not know what it is, or anything. Then I would start getting pop ups, but I have a pop up blocker turned on and after while IE would crash. Then sometimes, IE would just crash for no apparent reason. So I ran Spybot S&D and I found the pass this on hompage, cydoor, and advertising.com. Got rid of those, now I have no homepage. So I reset it to the one I had. But after a while it will always change back to some Passthison.com site. How can I fully get rid of this? It gets very aggrivating sometimes. Why come spammers and spybots cannot get a virii from your cpu, sometimes I wish they could.
You have been hijacked and it can be a real PITA to remove. I would recommend that you get Spybot and run it, it usually can fix the problem, it not their forum is an excellent place to get help for this. http://www.safer-networking.org/Kevin Arceneaux DEFAULT IS FOR DUMMIES Cry havoc and Let slip the dogs of war. I agree with Kevin. You've gotten hold of a spyware program. It is not a virus and will not harm your computer. I just pesters the h*** out of you with popups and other advertising and it changes your home page and adds stuff to your bookmarks or favorites folder. Do what Kevin says. There are some key files that you need to delete from your computer. you need to make sure the spyware program is not running when you do this or it will just replicate itself. The spyware is not spread by email or by a worm. You get it by connecting to a spyware site. I think one or more of the popups may be what places the software on your computer. Spybot and/or Ad-Aware are good programs to use to correct and prevent having the problem again.Cal Rasmussen Beaverton, OR (My email is in my profile)Columbia Gorge Route (Phase 1 UP side 95%, BNSF side 90%)
Hi, ssw_96, I'll address your problem of the home page, since it sounds like you already have Spybot S&D. Also if you have selected "Immunize" on that program, now would be a good time to do so. The Home Page is pretty basic, go to the site you want to have as your home page, then select 'Tools', 'Internet Options', and 'Use Current', that will reset your home page. You might also want to empty your Temporary Internet Files and clear out your History while you're there. Also you might want to go into Windows Explorer, go to your Windows folder, Temporary Internet Files folder and delete the cookies to every site that you don't recognize. That should help get you on your way... Hope this helps.
And go to Zonealarm.com and download the personal edition firewall. It's free.Didn't you just get nailed by a virus a month or two ago ssw_96?Zonealarm will not only close your ports to trojan remote access, but also monitors any application trying to access the internet. It will let you know if any app. is trying to get online without you being aware of it. This is useful for both trojans and spyware.Since it's free, there's really no reason to not use it. -Jeff
Yeah I got that lovsan or whatever it was, that was created by that young punk. I wish I could have gotten my hands on him for all of the trouble he caused me. Now this stuff. But I thank you for giving me the link to the firewall.
