I got a cab ride last night!

I was able to get a cab ride last night while a crew worked in a intermodal yard. It was great! Got to ride in a Dash 8, SD50, and SD40-2. Even though we were only aloud to go 10mph it seems a lot faster than it is.

You do realise that letting unauthourised persons in the cab is a disiplinary offence? Since the 11/9/2001 terrorist attacks in america security has noticably been tightened - try taking a photo at Cockfosters for example (no I wasn't using flash) and see what the response is. Of course, what america does one day, we are condemned do the next .--

The USA looks more and more like some of the communist
countries (East Germany/DDR for example). Everyone is being watched, and that's really sick. Nobody gets shot if they leave the country, though...

Ya, I guess you guys must be lucky if ya get to go in a cab or chat with a crew....I know all the crews and there phone nmbers and emails and get rides, I woul say its more than lucky.. But I live in the North where everybody minds each other... But still, I know that the crews always have been saying...Chris, who is this guy taking pictures? Or who is this guy standing here... I would have to say security went to far after 9/11.ChrisChris Wilson

I always thought cab rides were cool till I got my first one but I no longer feel that way... an entire crew almost lost their jobs because of me and I haven't been in the cab since. After the events that transpired on that trip I took awhile to re-think my career plans on the RR...

Well thats why I don't post where, for what railroad, or any names. Everyone was cool about it. It was just ina ayard doing switching anway no long run and never any higher than 10mph. =)

Yes I will admit that it has went too far in some cases, but here it is sort of laid back. No one has been hassled around here but ssw_96, one time only though. No one is too uptight like they were right after the 9/11 events, its kinda cool now. Im glad you got a cab ride eagleknight, but you try riding in one at 70mph, no fun at all, especially a GE. I'll let someone into the cab if I know them and I know that aint no officials are around anywhere.

If you're gonna do it, do it with precision.

If I were you I'd keep my mouth shut tightly.Don't broadcast to the world what you did.You never know who's looking at these post.The crews supervisors could be reading this and could make a decision that could have a lasting affect on their families.Can you provide for those families? I didn't think so.Savor what you did and keep a lid on it.

>think so.Savor what you did and keep a lid on it. This is why that we don't post Locations, Times, Dates, Road Name, and especialy Road Numbers. Hey I was able to get in the cab of an E- unit. That was preaty awesome being on one of those old Streamliners.

Good point Claude. I know its neat to ride in the locomotive especially for the first time. But for the sake of the generous crew who stupidly put there great paying job on the line....please keep your lips sealed. A crew on the I&M Rail Link was fired after a supervisor read a post of a fan who gave away just a tad to much information on Trainorders.com. Glad you was able to get a taste of the our kind of life. Not so thrilling to ride in them after awhile though.Later,CSK

(Which one did you enjoy the most? GE or EMD?)
I have a question maybye some of you all can answer for me. How much authority do Railroad police have? I mean do they have the same authority as a regular law enforcement officer? Do they carry side arms? Do they have the authority to arrest people? It might be a dumb question but, I would like to know. THANKS!

They are sworn in police officers and have just about as much power as a regular police officer, if not the same. They do have a gun but they usually keep it in their car, and they can arrest you if on or near railroad property. Now as far as being on public property I dont know. But I imagine they could if they saw you doing something illegal.

On railroad property....don't mess with them! They have the jurisdiction to arrest. Mean as junkyard dogs for the most part.Later,CSK

All of the Railroad police i've met have been very friendly to me.Anytime im at the yard watching trains switch from a public Xing, they stop and ask hows it goining, see lots of trains today, etc.There office is located at the yard here. And they've seen me quite abit.

How three in a day? I've only been on three, about 3 months apart each, a GP38-2, GP28M, and Dash9-44CW! And yes, I enjoyed the EMD's the best.
