Nov-12-01, 11:16 AM (EST) 1. "RE: New York Suffers again... :{" Nope, I'm in Chicago,Illinois, about 800 miles or so from New York City. There's a certain amount of rivalry between the two cities, and we kid around insulting each other all the time. Everybody is aware that it's not serious tho, and after September 11th about a hundred Chicago cops and firefighters took their vacation time to go to New York and help out. I think I can speak for most Chicagoans when I say they have our heartfelt sympathies, regardless of whether it's another terrorist act or just the usual greedy corporate skimping on maintenance to maximize profits. We had one like that at O'hare Field about 20 years ago, a DC-10 had an engine fall off on takeoff causing the plane to roll upside-down, turned out to be a maintenance shortcut.
If it does turn out to be another attack, I think it's high time we changed "Operation Enduring Freedom" to "Operation No More Mister Nice Guy". We know approximately where this jerkoff is, let's field test the neutron bomb. Civilian casualties? Collateral damage? Better them than us, we're in a fight to the finish here. In honor of Veteran's Day, let's take the gloves off and do what we're capable of. They accuse us of being a bunch of swaggering bullies anyway, let's make them happy and prove them right.Message Areas - "New York Suffers again... :{" – image 1Jim Ward

In That would make you no better then them, a lot of those people are poor and can't leave the damn country in the first place and a lot of those people do not get to pick their leaders and everything. Just like in the TwinTowers to a lot of those people wont be able to run away when you bomb them and kill their familys because of their forced on leaders. You have no care for life if you do not care one little bit about the civilians. They do not get to pick their leaders, they can not just move away either because they are so poor. I guess it is not like you would understand you are probably pretty high on the American food chain. Remove | Alert Edit | Reply | Reply With Quote | Top

Nov-13-01, 00:40 AM (EST) 3. "RE: New York Suffers again... :{" Well... you seem to give a higher regard to the poor than those with wealth. So I suppose to you the value of life is determined by what one has or doesn't have. I think that's a poor outlook on life. With that said, maybe you haven't heard, but the USA consideres itself at war. You'll note that the poster used the word in the context of collateral damage to the civilians. He didn't say target the civilians. Whether a civilian in a country is innocent or not, if he/she is in the way, it's unfortunate. It happens in war. Just like a bunch of folks didn't know they was in the way of some airplanes on 9/11, it happens. Wars begin with the population many times unaware of or even in opposition to the war. Doesn't stop it from happening. The sneak attackers on 9/11 planned their attack from Afghanistan and use Afghanistan as a base of operations. The Taliban hides their forces in Afghanistan civilian areas. So what do you propose the US to do? Call it quits? Give up because innocents may get hurt? Wait for another airplane to get blown out of the sky over NYC? Let me make this suggestion to you. Since we know the baddies in this case are using the internet, maybe you could send a message to them and say, 'please stop that... innocent lives are in danger because...' and list your reasons. See if they comply and who knows? Innocent lives will be saved because then our US planes will drop their ordenance on the real bad guys, and not innocents. We'll wait and here back from you on this. Thank you.Rich Garber Remove | Alert Edit | Reply | Reply With Quote | Top

Nov-13-01, 01:20 AM (EST) 4. "RE: New York Suffers again... :{" It doesn't mater what one person has or doesn't have it maters who they are and crap I was just pointing out they were poor and couldn't move away from places like that they are stuck there. everything in this damn world now days cost money you know? I wouldn't be shocked if they started trying to make us pay for every breath of air we take.USA is at a war with a country that has a lot of problems of its own, a country that could hardly defend itself from Americas weapons of war. Yet it still seems ok to go over and carpet bomb the whole damn country? didn't you notice people wanting to do that? sure civilans will get hurt, but people are wanting to go over there and just kill everyone, is that right? tell me? Blowing Afghanistan off the face of the earth wont stop terrorist acts, infact it will piss more people off and more terrorist acts will happen.Don't be stupid, we can't just email the other side saying hey we only want to kill you so stand aside so we can bomb the hell out of you. There are US Army forces in civilan areas. the Taliban, they aren't hiding they just happen to be there, they wont leave either they have to keep control of that city, if they just up and walked away to a place where civilans weren't well then anti-taliban could take over the city couldn't they? they would probably kill civilans anyway for reasons. And what? is everyone going to complain every damn time they try to attack back again? the usa is bombing them they will try to attack back in any way they can, you expect them to just sit there and not fight back? they made it clear when they crashed those planes that this will not be a war that would only take place on their land.Have fun killing half the damn world trying to kill all Terrorist, but don't complain when they fight back and kill someone you love. You helped picked the government that sent the warplanes that killed their loved ones. That sucks what happend to the TwinTowers but all you Americans can think about now is just killing everyone in Afghanistan, maybe all do not think that way but there is a good chunk of people that do. I thought this was suppose to be a good country? full of nice hard working people? People that cared about others and life. Yet ALOT of Americans only seem to care about money? and don't care about life or whos lifes they may destory on their way to make that money, they act like they are the best and anyone that trys defending themselfs from them are the bad guys.Money doesn't have anything to do with the war, but that is one of the flaws in many Americans. People have tried selling me a whole lot of crap sense what happend, they only cared about getting rich off of something so bad that happend it makes me sick to be an American. You are only breading hate by going over there and killing civilans. There is no easy way to solve the problem, but killing so many with the hopes to hit 1-2 of their forces isn't right. the USA doesn't even seem to want to take the time to find out what was wrong in the first place and to fix it so this doesn't happen again.

"RE: New York Suffers again... :{" I've been reading these posts vicariously over LngHairedWizard's shoulder for a while now, not really interested, but since he loves his train simulator, I try to support him in this endevor. BUT when I read things like the postings by evildeadcow, it really makes me wonder exactly what malarkie people are being fed around the world. I don't know where he's from, but we know he's not American. I wonder if he realizes that the AMERICANS have fought all over the world for EVERYONES freedom.Do I have to remind him of World War I and World War II, where the sons and daughters of AMERICA put their lives on the line - fought and DIED - to keep Europe and Asia free? Do I have to say anything about the liberation of the Death Camps set up by the Germans? Need I also remind you of the billions upon billions of dollars that was GIVEN by AMERICA to rebuild Europe and Japan? Undoubtedly, Mr. Evildeadcow does not read or completely understand history. If it wasn't for AMERICA being vigilant against any forms of tyrany then all of Europe would be speaking German and half of East Asia would be speaking Japanese.I'm sorry that Mr. Evildeadcow is unappreciative of what AMERICA has done for this planet that we are in. But remember, ANY government is not perfect, because it is run by people. As for the almost 6000 innocents that were murdered in New York, Washington D.C. and Pennsylvania - it is a horrific tragedy that has befallen a great nation. We shall overcome. Mr. Evildeadcow, how would you feel if a family member was a victim of these spineless cowards who can not look their enemy in the eye? Would you feel hatred? Would you feel compassion? Would you say, "Hey, my loved one is dead. But I understand where you're coming from and your point is well taken?" I can almost bet you'd be the first in line to take a pot shot at Osama BinLaden and the Al Queda (or anything that looked like they could be them). The AMERICANS gave them plenty of warning. It's not like Afganistan is the size of Alaska. Those who didn't wish to be there when everything started, got the hell out. I'm sure you've seen the news footage of the millions of refuges crossing the boarders to avoid the conflict. It's not like it wasn't covered by the news, or the fact that the TALIBAN is stealing the humanitarian aid that we are providing those who do not wish to be in conflict with us? Do you see the TALIBAN being concerned about "innocents?" Or is it just my imagination that they are indoctronating children barely in their teens to shoot, maim and kill? Do you see the oppression that the TALIBAN has placed on women? Not allowing the the freedom to work, or to even walk alone on the street to provide for their families? How about women being publicly STONED for accidently lifting a skirt to step over a curb and showing a bit of the skin on their leg? How you would like YOUR goverment to place such restrictions on your MOTHER or on any female member of your family? The AMERICAN goverment knows that there are other things that they have overlooked in the past so that the world could be at relative peace. AMERICA is trying to correct those injustices as we speak. Did NOT President Bush ask the Prime Minister of Isreal to remove troops from the occupied areas? Is AMERICA not working for PEACE for all nations to be free of terrorist and their ilk? In closing, I honestly think that Mr. Evildeadcow shoud rethink his position. As history serves me correct, wasn't just that sort of thinking responsible for Hitler's almost complete decimation of Europe? Complacency has no place when it comes to terrorism.Thank you for letting me rant

"RE: New York Suffers again... :{" I am an American leaving in Colorado I've lived here all my damn life, wow huh? tell you what, I could walk down the street to and they wouldn't be pointing and saying I'm not an American because I look like an American to.See their government is forced onto them so alot of the people still stuck there not only getting treated like crap from their own government but are getting bombed on from the usaPeople left yeah but not everyone could. I do understand history and I know of the history, infact all the time I watch documentarys about WW2 everytime I can and read books and such, I am greatfull for those that laid down their life so mine could be better.Yet look at things now? I don't feel free, neither does a lot of my family, everyday I am forced to pretend I am someone I am not to all these crap head people. I do not force my ways onto others and I do not rant like this to a lot of people unless it really bothers me when they say something. I have a friend that lost a loved one in the newyork thing, they want the people that did it to be taken out to, but they don't want America carpet bombing Afghanistan like so many want. Sorry I wouldn't want to go over and personly kill people if my family was killed in those towers, what would it solve? I would be a hartless little nasty killer b*tch if I did and people over there would want to come kill me and whoever is left standing of my family. The killing would just go on tell we were all dead.Times change, the GREAT doesn't always stay the great. You want to call me EvilDeadCow well fine then, come kill me, I have provided enough info out there that you shouldn't have any problem at all tracking me down, while you are at it why don't you go fing my dead sisters bones and piss on them, hey I could probably help you find a nice place to ditch my body to, I'll even give you the knife to kill me with. Hey guess what? BinLaden or the Taliban isn't trying to take over the world like Hitler was. They aren't working that hard for peace are they? Hey I look around and I am not seeing peace here in America, is it that they are just to busy working on peace everwhere else and not giving a crap about their own people? sorry it is the American Food Chain I forgot my class of people doesn't mater so we get walked on and crapped on by a lot of people. it isn't just my type of view there are some great people that get crapped on like this and guess what? they try doing some nasty stuff or killing themselfs.Of course we want peace in other countrys, but I am not seeing much peace, I see alot of people in other countrys pissed off at America. Infact I've talked to other people in other countrys that hated me when they found out I was an American.I knew a really great writer, very good story teller, peacefull person, didn't act up and treated others good, that person got treated and hassled a little to bad by these normal American people and so she tried killing herself and pretty much gave up on writing and those sorts of things. This person wasn't like me, meaning that they were a good person, they didn't say stupid things that made everyone hate them. Maybe even you would have liked this person if you knew the old them, yet because of the way people on our part of the American Food Chain get treated this person gave up on this stuff and become that person you would dislike and hate. maybe you thought I was screwed up and stupid? you haven't heard nothing tell you've heard some of the things she has said about this country. Oh? Guns put into the hands of young and preteens? teaching them how to fire those guns to? I've seen that, I've had guns pulled on me by preteens.... little Americans kids that get tossed out on the street and only know hate and pain.It takes alot of guts to steal a plane and crash it into a building, The Americans aren't stealing their bombs from other countrys then riding them down tell they explode Killing the person that was riding it down to the end.You want to do something good for your country, then go ahead, kill me, kill my family to. Maybe you will feel better then. there will be some more food to go around to others some more living space some more jobs. whatever! In closing, The mind of an insane person is an odd one, you can not always point the finger at them and call them a bad person when they kill someone or do something stupid or bad, sometimes there is so much more to it all then just that, you wont be able to pull out some book to find out what is going on, it just does not work that way. Sometimes it is better to try to learn and understand what is wrong and what is going on with them rather then just pushing them down and locking them away. Nov-13-01, 05:12 AM (EST) 7. "RE: New York Suffers again... :{" You just made my point. Thank you. I'm awfully sorry for your friend who lost a loved one in New York. I honestly am. I pray every day for the souls of those victims of cowards. It doesn't take guts to steal a plane and crash it into a building. It takes guts to meet you enemy head on.If you see so much hatred and injustice here, but are you doing anything about it? Are you trying to help get the guns out of the hands of the misguided youth? Are you a member of a mentoring program that give a male figure for these children to look up to? Are you out there, helping the homeless, finding jobs for the unemployed or do you just turn your back and act smug because the GOVERNMENT isn't doing anything? The problems that we have here are significant, yes, but it takes PEOPLE to help those in need. Are you doing your part? I am. I do my part every day to help those less fortunate than I am. I can't give money, because I'm not that well off, but I give my time and efforts into making my community a better, safer place. Are you doing that, or just turning a blind eye and hope the police catch all the criminals so you don't have to deal with them?If you can honestly say, in your heart, that you can forgive those terrorist that took all those lives, well consider yourself one of the few. I can't honestly say I forgive them. And if that makes me (and about a billion other people around the world) the bad guys. The world is full of people that have differing opinions, and one of the things that makes THIS country great is that we can express them. Even if they are filled with hate, the government guarrantees our right of expression. Even in England, the have censorship that prevents the population from speaking their mind totally. Right now the country is trying to get back to some semblence of normal. We, as a nation, are looked up upon as a great people. Even those who mean to terrorize us send their children here to educate them. Being proud to be an American doesn't mean "goose-stepping" to the goverment's "march." Being Amercian means being free, and having that freedom is something that most Americans hold dearly. If you are so outraged about what is happening, why just voice it here? Have you done anything else to let your opinion be known? There are many people who badmouth the this very nation in which we live, but do nothing to change it. If you want changes, start making them yourself. Skip your regular Thanksgiving dinner to serve one to the homeless. Don't buy all the expensive presents for everyone in your family and make Christmas for some family that will go without. That's what I'm doing. Instead of buying the latest and greatest. I'm making Christmas possible for two children who wouldn't know it otherwise. Since you're so concerned for the internal problems of America.. it's time to step up to the plate and do something about them yourself. If more Americans did what I'm doing, this would be a much better place, don't you think? As for me wanting to kill you and your family, no... I wouldn't wish death on anyone (not even my worst enemy). But I will pray for you and your family this holiday season. I'll pray that your heart is opened up to those very things that you've stated today. Also, I never said I wanted them to carpet bomb Afganistan. I have faith that the leaders in the military will do what's needed to help resolve the situation. Unfortunately there are casualities in war on both sides. And not just military personnel. If you feel so strongly about the things you've stated, just don't sit here and post. DO SOMETHING ABOUT IT.Queen

On my birthdays now I bake a cake and go give it out to homeless people and I tell my friends if they want to do something for me for my birthday they will do the same. I want to do more, I want to go out and teach youngins to do the sorts of things I know how to do.I do what I can to stop kids from feeling hate or anything along the sorts, I personly don't like guns at all. I don't forgive the terrorist for what they did but it really deeply bothers me everytime I hear about civilions dieing, I've seen here in person from little kid to grown up people get treated just as bad as they do there then die in such a horrid way, I feel so bad alot of the times because I was young and never thought to try to do anything to help some of these people. On thanks giving I am fed by someone else and I don't think they are about to skip their thanks giving for someone else and I am to poor to do any sort of Christmas stuff.... we haven't been doing Christmas for almost 3 years here at my house any money I normaly get ahead I use to put into some things around my own place to help bring a little joy for myself and to learn new skills that will help me later on.Around when I was 9-10 That is how I got my Christmas, by someone bringing us toys because we were to poor to buy them. Of course when I am well off enough I would love to do this, but for now there isn't much I can do. Got my first Trainset then to.I didn't say you wanted that, but there is people that do, I really fear sometimes what the USA can do with its weapons of war. And I fear even more that some of these people are in enough power that they may be able to use some of these weapons.I do what I can while I can, sometimes I wish I could do more but sometimes my mental state stops me from doing more, I try to do more though. Nov-13-01, 05:58 AM (EST) 9. "RE: New York Suffers again... :{" People, please THINK before you POSTIt's true that America fought many wars for freedom, but it's also true that it always was in America's interest to fight these wars. It's also true that America always had a certain arrogance when fighting for their cause which caused bad sentiments in other nations, especially in the Arabic World. They had the feeling the America was just fighting for itself, not themselves.Let me tell you an anecdote I heard in a TV discussion:
It's a story from Cold War times.
In some capital in the Near East there was a Soviet and an US embassy. In the Soviet embassy everyone from the highest ambassador to the lowest driver could speak fluently Arabic. In the US embassy no one could speak Arabic because they assumed that everyone could speak English.
That's the difference. Now concerning this freedom we are all proud about, I'm really worried. Along with the sentiments of the terrorist attacks politicians were enabled to execute their plans to cut the peoples' personal freedom. They also finally could live out their fear against all electronic media and pass laws to keep them even more under surveillance although it's proven that the terrorists didn't use them and it was a low tech attack. For example the PATRIOT act, which was passed two weeks after the attacks. It already was planned for years, now it doesn't seem to be a problem anymore. It violates quite a lot of the amendments, for example government agencies are now allowed to secretly search your house without ANY suspicion and without search warrant. It says in the title that it's against terrorists, but also against others. And these others are not defined...
President Bush said: The citizen's rights are not cut...I am glad that in Europe these laws did not pass and are still heavily discussed over! What also makes me really worried are the restrictions in the freedom of speech and press, the mindless patriotism and everything else.
It really can't be that anyone who is against the war and against the American policy is considered an enemy of the United States (as Mr. Bush declared)!
This is really the opposite of everything America and the free world stand for!
It's also interesting to see how the "good" US always need their "evil" opponent. After the Soviets were gone, there was a little hole, they had to find Saddam and Milosevic, now they finally have got Osama.
It was shocking to see how all US and world media immediately knew that it was Osama, without even thinking, without even waiting for the evidence!
This shows that people only stick to their values as long as somebody else is affected.
Pictures of American bombs with "Eat this, Ossama!" written (spelled wrong) on them and then probably missing their target, are not good for the image as well.
Now I think it's good that these terrorists are caught and brought before a court according to our values (not "Cowboy - dead or alive" crap!).
Another question is, if this can be achieved by bombs on a non-existent infrastructure, hitting now and then innocent civilians.I think it's also good that regimes like the Taliban are removed from power, but it would be better with other means. But I don't think at all that this is going to solve any problems! The "Free World" exploiting the rest of the world, that is the main problem which I fear could get worse with this war.
We really had a great chance to finally unite the world and make it a better place, but if everyone sticks to his policy, we won't succeed.
Dropping the debt is a first step, but it still doesn't help these countries actively. Now this is my opinion and please don't write lectures about how great the US is when someone has a different opinion because in the Free World it's their RIGHT to have it!Greetings,

1) Get up with a box cutter while I am on the plane, and be prepared to have a broken limb or two and it won't be painless. If I sound angry, I am. I share that with a few other people in the USA.
2) Some hardworking American farmer got up at 4 in the morning and drove a tractor till way past dark to grow the food you enjoy, whereever you are on the food chain, while a lot of lazy mindless hatemongers were out playing terrorist.
3)I think the American patience has worn pretty thin with folks that throw rocks and then cry when they are thrown back. We have been very tolerant of all kinds of ideas, unlike the countries that spawned this lunactic thought.
4)We can get a lot farther creating a world of common interests, rather than destroying the other guys world because it happens to be prosperous. That prosperity was not without its price. Most came as a result of a lot of hard work, and ingenuity.

They were used by the United States government as targets. It kind of puts things into perspective when you consider the 6,000 people killed on September 11. By the way, EVERY Afghan has lost a relative over the past years and all of them would be glad if they could only feel a little as secure as we do now.Greetings,

"Evil"darkcow, you oughtta consider changing your nickname, it don't quite fit in with your philosophy. A somewhat naive philosophy, in my arrogant opinion, that "let's not stoop to their level" crap doesn't work whether you're dealing with schoolyard bullies, fascist dictators or self-appointed swords of Allah. You can't kill sewer rats without crawling through the sewers, although you can delude yourself into believing you actually finished the job without getting dirty. No, Rich, that wasn't a joke, this is totally different from the "war" you and I fought, we're not trying to save the world from godless communists or convert the third world into capitalist republican yuppies here, this is about survival. A suicide bomber gives his life for "his people", taking as many of "our people" with him as he can, do you suppose they would continue to do that if they knew we would go after their families in retaliation? Would they try that with the Mafia? Would you kick a rabid dog? Mind you, I lived through the race riots of the late 60s as a primary target, white boy in a black neighborhood, so I'm not advocating attacking Arab Americans. I spent over 3 hours hiding in garbage cans and dodging around burning cars trying to get home from school after my bus was overturned by a mob in April of 68, and I personally had nothing to do with assassinating Dr. King. I don't think anyone on this forum would be that stupid, I did see some of that after Sept. 11th, including some Indians these morons attacked in spite of the prominent dots on their foreheads. What I'm saying is that this is one we absolutely must win, and if bin Laden actually does have access to nukes as he claims, and since they have already demonstrated that maximum civilian casualties are their goal, we'd feel awfully silly having one of his nukes go off in our faces while trying to fight a "civilised" war. And pushing the button on one of these fanatic countries would not make more enemies than we already have, the only thing they respect is force, so my belief is that it would reduce future problems and casualties.
I suppose I could be considered high on the food chain in my neighborhood, when I was a kid we had a black and white TV, a family with a color TV was considered "rich", the kids living in the cold water flats (one toilet at the end of the hall per floor, shared by 4 to 6 apartments) considered those of us who lived in apartments with our own bathroom and hot water to be "rich". And of course I actually live in a house now, with a washer in the basement, no laundromats for me any more, and my youngest son is probably the only kid on the West Side with an 800mhz Athlon. So yeah, I guess you could call me a rich guy, depending on where you set the standard.
I agree with some of your politics tho, "evil"darkcow, 90% of the wealth in this nation is owned by 10% of the people, who buy and sell politicians to maintain the difference. My bleeding heart lives closer to home, tho, I never sent a nickel to the starving orphans in Ethiopia, I have starving, neglected, and abused children right here in my neighborhood getting caught in the crossfire of the drug war, welfare "reform", and gang warfare on a regular basis. After all of mine are taken care of I'll worry about someone else's.
And no, Don, that shot was taken over 20 years ago aboard the USS America, I don't know if She's even still in commission. I'm sure not still in commision, my total involvement with terrorism has been reassuring the kids I work with, who already have enough to worry about, that I would do anything and everything in my power, including acts of unspeakable evil to fight evil, to protect them if it came here.Message Areas - "New York Suffers again... :{" – image 4Jim Ward

I think that there are no easy answers here, but I hope that the events that have transpired in the last 24hrs will take the pressure off many of the Afghan People. While It is true that there have been civillian casualties in Afghanistan and they are tragic, it seems to me that the events of the 11th of September cannot be allowed to stand. It is true also that it is always innthe U.S's interest when it gets into a fight, but name me a country that goes in to fight when it isn't in their interest.
I would ask people who would have the U.S. and indeed my Country (Australia) out of Afghanistan just how we should deal with those Attacks, just wait for it to happen again? Ask Nicely for Bin Ladin? (That didn't work)! The events of September could have just as easily happened to me or anyone in else in the free world. when I'm in danger, I tend to take action to alleviate the danger, I'm sorry for the people of Afghanistan, I'm sure that a wrong is being commited against them, but still, because of the attacks on Afghanistan, I am less likely to be killed the next time I hop on board a flight to Melbourne and if you can't live with that, well I sure can!P.S. please take it in the spirit it is meant when I mutter about the U.S. always turning up late to World Wars........
