Hey All, here are pics of my most recent railfanning trip out in the beautiful West Texas plains and Amarillo. The day had sun and clouds, but this trip, although was mostly overcast with dark storm clouds in the background, i had some of the best mood shots i've taken on a railfanning trip in quite some time. Some pictures may be grainy, this is due to the distortion from the digital zoom. Enjoy the photos btw this was the trip where i saw the Soo SD60's ... a nice suprise for the day

RE: Railfanning Trip, West Texas 9/7/03

i have been putting them here since i started doing these and kind of has been a default place for people to put thier railfanning photos, since the general forum deals with anything railroading. As far as putting them in the screenshot forum, i probably should do that next time, though both seemed to be used for real train photos. I don't object to them being posting them in either forum, though i do need to find a home for my decent (non grainy) train pictures. Maybe i should send my better ones to George Elwood to have them in the appropraite places on his fallen flags site......

Hey, Bill. Welcome back to West Texas. Looks like you found the fueling station on 3rd street on the East side of Amarillo. The old Santa Fe tank cars are almost always present there.Keep the pics coming.

RE: Railfanning Trip, West Texas 9/7/03

Great photos, Bill. I took a cross country trip this June and came across Texas, US60 and US 287 and I-40 thru Amarillo, and saw a ton of this same stuff. That's a great route to do some trainspotting on.

Nice shots Bill, I like the variety of power they use down there. Here in northern Illinois, everything seems to be the same ole haberdash !!! Ron K of Rockford

As for the Autoracks...It's basically a unit autorack train bulit Gunderson (a division of Greenbrier). They can be configured in either tri or bi level designs and come in 2 unit articulated sets. In the tri level design they are the only autoracks that can carry 3 levels of SUVs. They are 22 feet 2 inches tall and are 145 feet 4 inches from coupler pulling face to coupler pulling face (2 unit set).
To give you an example on the height of the Automax cars...a SD70M is 15 feet 7 inches from rail to cooling fan. 6 feet 1 inchs shorter than the Automax.
