Leaving is not the way to go Kevin

I'll be blunt, just as Kevin so often is. There have been times I would have welcomed the news of you being banned. But Kevin, you are a valued member of this forum, even I have come to know that. You have helped me many times, either through a post of mine, or just picking up on someone elses. There is no doubt, you are blunt, and sometimes rude, but instead of packing up your AE and hitting the bricks, I would hope you would reconsider your plans, and stick around. The truth is, you are full of knowledge, both regarding MSTS, and real world trains. Would it be too much of you to reword your thoughts to those who you talk to everyday and newbies alike. You are afterall a key member to this forum.No one should ever change the way they are, and this was afterall YOUR choice, so if you so choose to leave, than so be it.Can't believe I am saying this, but you will be missed by many.Best of luck to you Kevin.Chris Bogley

Unlike all the tantrum-like exits we've gotten used to, this one was preceded by a threat of banishment from a mod. So Kevin didn't just get sick of the crap and decide to leave, he was warned to modify his actions or be banned. I can't speak for him, but I'm guessing that he just chose to self-ban instead of living under a gag order, wondering which reply would be the one that would make an idiot cry, and waiting for the official word from the mods. Yes Kevin can be short and blunt and even sometimes rude. After raising 5 kids, I understand that fully. What is forgotten is that Kevin is an effective communicator, in that he gets his point across and no one has any doubts as to what he means. If you cannot handle this type of communication, grow up, as that is what happens in the work enviroment. Too bad overly sensitive immature people have to complain, we need more people like Kevin and less of the complainers.

When two people know what each other thinks it can lead to dialog and understanding. However when people make statements just to get a reaction, or to stir up trouble that leads to chaos. After reading Kevins posts and yours, I have found Kevin to be helpfull and easy to understand. You however are quite a different story as none of your posts contributed anything worthwhile.

Kevin has pissed me off by the way he treats people around here....and he hasn't even 'yelled at me'.BUT....it's probably a good thing for the fourm. Someone has to be the dad, and so far no one else has steped up to that vital part of out 'community'. He has also provides us with some quality add-ons and helpful information.But, if he so decides to walk so be it. It would be his lose, not ours. There is no 'i' in team, and thats what we have to be.(And yes I know there is 'me'.)Final thought: I hope Kevin has enough balls to stay, and doesnt sink down to a lower level.

Well I can't say I have much an opinion on the subject but I thought Kevin was just more of a "tell it like it is, even though the truth hurts" kind of guy and that he didn't go around meaning to start flame wars and the such, he just put it the way it was. Geez...another dispute.......where is da luv!!!!!! All I know is.......I have never had a problem with Kevarc........yes at times he seemed a bit of a smart ass..........there are qiute a few now on here.......But the man knew his stuff....a contributer. I left a few model railroad clubs because of ......BS.....like this.......guys who know alot....come off better then the rest..in the train world they are everywhere...but after all the bitchin is said and done.....are the only guys who have solutions and keep the hobby moving forward.......and new people who want to rule the roost but don`t contribute alot but second guessing and demands.....Kev....dont leave ......yourself.....Enocell,the guys from NALW....Pete Willard and the Keystone boys and more I can`t think of right now....for me ...are the guys who seem to be the driving force behind the whole train-sim thing....let the people who are unreasonable and unappreciative leave....it seems alot of people here know who you are and what your all about. I am mostly a lurker, because as a sort of newbi, I have found it better to keep my mouth shut on a lot of topics.I do have one comment though on all of this. Take this from someone who specializes in conflict managment (I am a clergyman by profession). There are people on this board who regularly say things that are purposefully said to incite others. Kevin is one whose fuse might be a little shorter than others. However, that's not necessarily a bad thing. What I have seen Kevin get the most short about is stupid questions, or even moreso, inflammatory questions. I would love Kevin's ability for 3 word answers. But, I don't. Kevin maybe needed more tact at times, but he was still someone I respect. I respect him because he has some great knowledge about this topic. Overall, I am often dismayed by the antagonism that seems to be so prevelant on internet message boards. Many people seem to take lots of things personally. Others say things in print that they would NEVER dare say face to face.Remember, if you wouldn't say something to a person face to face, you should not put it in print for all eternity for everyone to see. Better to remain silent and thought a fool, then to open your mouth and prove it.

I would take a dozen Kevin's over one of your posts with that attitude. I like Kevin, he contributes a lot to this community and I don't mean just his activities, but also his many posts which I have mostly enjoyed reading. I don't have to always agree with someone to respect them. Many of his posts hit the correct target, even if they were a bit outspoken at times.Any community would be boring if everyone always thought and spoke exactly the same all of the time. This reply of yours is part of what I see wrong with so many internet message boards. I doubt that if Kevin had been standing in front of you would would have called him "Ahole Bast." While some might not know what you meant, I do. I find your behavior as offensive as you find Kevin's. I wish our moderators would remove posts or people who insist on using profanity and vulgar language. They warn Kevin, but let this stuff go unchallenged. Maybe Kevin was pompus at times. I will agree with you that he had a superior attitude. When you are as intelligent as he is and as accomplished as he is in his field (MSTS); then you may have trouble understanding why others have trouble with extremely simple procedures.An example: Ted Williams was probably the greatest and most accomplished hitter in all of baseball. (So say the baseball experts) But when he became a manager, he failed because of his inability to understand why it was so hard for some people to do what he found so easy...hit a curve ball. While Kevin might be no Ted Williams, I believe there is a point here. Kevin couldn't tolerate stupidity. Maybe that's part of his flaws. OK, but each one of us has flaws too. We all need to be more tolerant.

Kevin - I've been away from the Forum for about a year and a half, and returned to find an exceptionally knowledgeable individual who is always willing to help folks with a problem - including a pseudo newbie like me. I did also pick up from several posts that your terse communication was found offensive by some, but I do believe they were in the minority. I think your contribution to the community will be sorely missed and I know that most of the people on this forum would be delighted to see you return from your self-imposed exile.Whaddya say?

I belive because Mike feels that perhaps this is getting too violent, or maybe he was affected by some idiotic remark.

I respected kevin as well, I admit I got more than a bit steamed at him, but I deserved what he said to me. He DID say what we were thinking real loud, and we must appreciate he had the confidence to do so.BCDEF with his idiotic posts actually made me laugh, probably more than I should have. But I was not happy to see him leave. I have come to think of you forum members (new and old) almost like a giant railroad family, and it dissapoints me to see members leave, just because of a few fools.Now then, to adress the hostilities directed at me. You know what? I am so tired of this BS... I'm joining Kevin.Put a fork in me... I'm done. The lamers have won. All I ever see now is; "Gimme this" "Gimme That" "I want a BARNEY the DINOSAUR route!"
