I think this is a real shame. Knowing you Kev you wouldn't want someone else's opinion, but I reckon in this instance I'll break my own rules!Sure you can be a bit "blunt" shall we say at times, and you obviously don't suffer fools gladly, but you've always been here, and you've helped out a lot of folk over the past few years - which is more that can be said about a lot - probably me included. I reckon it'll be a real shame if you disappear to any degree from the scene. The problem is that we are all "faceless" on these threads. If this were a real live club somewhere, or a bar(!) and we were all here in person then we'd lose a lot of the misunderstandings, and differences of opinion could be given (or shouted back) with all the banter you get in a living atmosphere. It's a lot easier for people to take things personally and therefore take offence in messages.Grumpy old sod you might come across as sometimes, but I wouldn't have you any other way! Cheers

Wow Chuck, agreement again!I don't see why Kev should go,but it's voluntary,so who knows? It'd be a pretty bland world if sensible informed discussions got in the way of the PC brigade.

If you must go then I guess a mans gotta do what a mans gotta do,personaly I'd guess the complaints come from the trolls and should be taken with a grain of salt(Intercorsus Illigitemus)

RE: KevArc's self-imposed ban

I don't see what the big problem is Kev I think you are a great person even tho i don't know you really but you have helped me in the past and i appreciate that. There are some really geedy people in this world (trolls) and To all of them out there if you want something done then you should do it on your own because a great loco or cab etc takes time and i would like to see you do it better a lot of credit has to go out to NALW and all designers who create free models because it does take time and patience and it is free!! not that many things are free these days. This is becoming a war zone because of some people were all suppose to be a bucnch of people who like trains and we should all get along and help one another. I know that i am dissapointed to see Kev go.

RE: KevArc's self-imposed ban

And someday, the people who eventually sent Kev packing are going to come looking for information that only he knows, that only he would reply with, no matter how short and curt, and guess what...IT AIN'T GONNA BE THERE!!! While they may now look at it as a victory, eventually it WILL, rest assured, come back to haunt them.

RE: KevArc's self-imposed ban

I know we haven't always met eye to eye Kev, and this is also one time now. I am leaning back and fourth on this, but I sorta kinda think you post about banning yourself was the same level as what the "Trolls" do. One of the "Im to good for you guys so i'm leaving" posts.I know this isn't the case for you, you were p*ssed off at the newbies and trolls...but so am I sometimes, and so are the others, but I still think the post seems like a "look at me post" in a way. Now, the other part of me is leaning this direction. You were always a huge contributer to this community. (actually, huge is an understatement) I think your contributions will be missed....greatly. You still gunna make activities?
Hm...after I said that I'm sure to upset some people....I'm not trying to do that. Even though Kev talked to me like dirt in posts some time...lol...I will miss him. It sucks that he will be leaving.

RE: KevArc's self-imposed ban

>And someday, the people who eventually sent Kev packing . . .Unless the posts in this thread are in some factual error, Kev was "sent packing" by . . . Kev. No one (RPT no one) forced this decision on Kev, he made it all by himself. For good or ill, it is his decision and nobody else's. > . . . are
>going to come looking for information that only he knows,
>that only he would reply with, no matter how short and curt,
>and guess what...IT AIN'T GONNA BE THERE!!! This sounds for all the world like a variation on "I'll run away from home and _then_ they'll be sorry. As much as I respect Kev's knowledge, I doubt that is _anything_ re MSTS that "only he knows". Even if there were, I doubt that it wouldn't/couldn't be discovered independently by someone else.>While they may
>now look at it as a victory, eventually it WILL, rest
>assured, come back to haunt them. If they are (whoever they are) everything claimed in the thread, they will not be haunted for the simple reason that they are too obtuse to know what they lack. No one "won" and everyone here lost. Not because of what Kev knows or doesn't know, but because we are a community, and every departure is a loss to the whole community. No man is an island etc., etc. Ask not for whom the bell tolls, it tolls for all of us. If it were "tem" instaed of Kev who left the bell would still toll.Brad Meyer

RE: KevArc's self-imposed ban

Trolls/morons my as*, many people had and have very good reasons to be piss** off at that jerk. OK, he did do some activites and did answer, no matter how rudely, some q's; but is that a reason to idolize the guy as if he was indepensiable? Of course not! He was always good at dishing it out but never good at taking it in response. He always somehow considered himself superior and above all others or the usual accepted rules for engaging in discussion with those who didn't agree with him. I for one will not be sorry to see him go.Dwayne

Did I get this right - Kev was actually threatened with a ban yet all the real twits, for want of invective, who do nothing but whinge, moan and flame are still here? What on earth is this place coming to.

I consider this a "time-out" for KEVARC while the NEWBIES chill out, not necessarily KEVIN. Apparently the newbies merely outnumbered him and were getting an overdose of "QUIT BEING FREAKING LAZY" advice.Sometimes you can't fix what's broken so you break what's working???

He should NOT be forced out by the jackals

LAST EDITED ON Aug-19-03 AT 10:57 AM (EDT)

Put me down in the "he should not go" camp, ESPECIALLY not because of a bunch of whining pissants who haven't got the stones to take their issue with his cantankerous nature up with him personally and not go slinking off to some forum nanny.

This may have already been posted, but Kev was e-mailed by one of the mods and told if he didn't change his ways, he would be banned.

I don't understand what the problem is here.He decided to leave rather than change. That's commendable I think. As it was his decision, it's rather selfish for people to tell him to stay. (he did say he'd still be lurking about anyway) He will be missed, but please respect his stand on the issue. -Jeff

Kevin, I really hate to see you go. You have helped me on several occasions. You have also slammed me just as many times! Someone once said "Be sure brain is engaged before putting mouth in gear." I really think that if you could lighten up a little bit and get the chip off of your shoulder, you would have a lot more friends here. I wonder how many newbies and potential good contributers to these forums have been turned away by your harsh, cutting remarks.Just remember the golden rule, "Do unto others before they have a chance to do unto you!" Oops, wrong golden rule! You get the idea. Stick around and ignore the trolls. You can ignore me, too, if I get out of line. I wouldn't do that, would I??Cal Rasmussen

Hi JeffThis is not just about Kev. I think the issue here is WHY he was put in this position in the first place. What goes for Kev here may well set the trend for others in future. We all know he has a certain way with words, but that's Kev. He's been like that for as long as I can remember. Put that down to his personality. It's not like he suddenly lost it and upset a lot of people. One thing you can say about him is that he's consistent. Why now then is he being taken to task? And who's next? And just for the record, I totally respect Kev's decision - whatever it is. That doesn't mean I can't also express my opinions and disappointment about it. Cheers

Despite the fact that at times, Kevin could be blunt (and sometimes obnoxious), his expertise will be greatly missed here. I hope he returns someday.
Kevin's offenses are less serious than some of the people I have run into here. These aforementioned people have not contributed much or anything at all to the community. On the other hand, few people have contributed as much as Kevin has. Jonathan Nikiforovs.
