Oct-28-01, 05:39 PM (EST) "Some Advice Please" Obviously a RAGE IIC with 4M won't cut it with TrainSim.There are a number of 64M cards available for around $100 US - check the CompUSA site for a list.So I don't mess up again, does anyone have any opinions on which chipset is better. I have had experience with the 32M ATI product (Radeon 32, PCI based) which worked fine on my old machine. I have heard that the Nvidia chip set is better. I also run FS-98, CFS-Europe, and CFS-Pacific, both of which do pretty well on the RAGE IIC. One person told me that in it's day, (1998), the RAGE was a good card.I am considering one of the GeForce series.Opinions please - it will probably help others as well.J. H. Sullivan, P.E. Anything that cost's $100 is going to probably be poo. You could get the older GeForce 2 with 32MB, but it will be probably outdated soon. To take best advantage of newest games and newest directx features you really do need a Geforce 3, which i believe run between $250-300. Whatever you do don't buy anything that is not a GeForce, especially anything made by ATI. ATI cards always have been, are, and always will be doodie. TNTs aren't really much better, nor are Savages. Really there is absolutely no alternative to a GeForce 2 or 3. They are the ONLY good graphics cards on the market, especially if you have or will have a DVD player someday.-Andy

Oct-28-01, 09:32 PM (EST) 2. "RE: Some Advice Please" I have to disagree.I'm running a geforce2 pro 64meg and it's running perfectly fine.I get anywhere from a max of about 60 frames to a low of 15.The 15 is when I'm running a 100 car train so that's expected. My advice would be one of the geforce2 mx cards if you're on a budget. The geforce 3 is awesome but there aren't really any titles that utilize it yet so if your strapped for cash get one of the mx's.Freddie A. Oct-28-01, 10:10 PM (EST) 3. "RE: Some Advice Please" Have to agree with "Splatter", I just bought a GeForce2 MX 400 yesterday! They're $99.99 at Office Depot. It's running great. Granted, I can't turn "everything" to 100% - have specular lighting and detailed shadows off, but it is a great card for the money. After all, if you want a WONDERFUL card, 3D Labs has some for $1800+ ! For the bucks and considering the how well it runs the game, I'm happy -Verne Remove | Alert Edit | Reply | Reply With Quote | Top
