Oct-27-01, 07:14 PM (EST) "RAGE IIC Video Card" I just upgraded my PC hoping to do better with generating new routes, but like another person earlier this month, I have run flat into the wall with the RAGE IIC (AGP based). I have installed the latest drivers, and I have Direct-X 8.0a, but here is the problem, and I think I have also found the reason. This card was available (in 1998) with 1,2,4, or 8M of memory. The card I have was sold to me (used) to resolve a problem with my ATI Radeon-32 (PCI based) which was incompatible with an Athlon running at 1G. The local store did not know how much memory it had, nor did they have docutmentation, but the Direct-X diagnostic indicates it has "approx. 8M" which may mean anything.First, I had to turn off the test for bit checking on startup. This allowed MSTS to bring up the various set up screens, but the result was a rather choppy image. Upon running a demo route, I immediately got the message "Train World Initialization Failed". After some experimentation, I reduced the image complexity, and found that the route would load for several seconds and then I got the same message. Then I reduced the image complexity, train details, etc. to "zero" and this time, attempted to load the NEC route as a demo. This time, I got a message about it being unable to load an acela car, and this occurred a few times, and then the World Init. error again. My suspicion is that this card has less than 4M of memory. Previously, using the original computer guts, 266M Pentium-MMX, 64M of ram, and a Intergraph Intense-3D/100 card with 4M of memory, the program ran fine, but just a disgusting frame rate. With the 32M ATI card, the frame rate was much better.By the way, this card runs CFS-2, CFS-1, and FS-98 fine, but it looks like I will have to negotiate with the wife for another expenditure "puter wise".Back around Oct. 1, another fellow had trouble with this card, and I suspect he may also have a card with insufficient memory.J. That was a very good card, because of it's drivers which were better than any other in '98(my opinion). Enocell Remove | Alert Edit | Reply | Reply With Quote | Top

Oct-29-01, 03:20 PM (EST) 2. "RE: RAGE IIC Video Card" Yeah, but i used to have a Rage Pro Turbo w/8MB, and found ATI stopped supporting drivers for them in 1999! Don't know if the IIC has any newer updates, but it may be time to opt for a new video card anyway. My machine just makes it, and that is with a GeForce2 GTS w/32MB DDR RAM! Course, my proc is only an 800 MHz Athlon on the old 200MHz FSB, but that may change in the near future...--------- BUZZ Remove | Alert Edit | Reply | Reply With Quote | Top
