Hi PcKiller(not a good timing for your picking name judging the stir-up that lovsan-worm of today caused, if you allow me this side remark)My personal pref's:- Whitefish 2, excellent 180 miles of single track with long passing sidings, highest quality scenery & detail, feels as real as it gets.- Marias Pass 3.1, much better and smoother than the default USA2 Marias Pass- ATSF Raton Pass II - not too much scenerywise, but long stretches of 70 mph freight and 90 mph passenger running, well working signals & passing pathes.- Glorietta Pass - from the same author as Raton above, continuation of the same route, more scenery, haven't seen it all there yet.- Renfe La Pobla 2: Single track Spanish branch line with an athmosphere of a line close to being shut down, excellent scenery, slow going in some places, but a lot of carefully placed details to be seen. - Mesaba II: Interurban (trolley) route in a 1930s athmosphere, not the final release yet, but a must have if you are into interurban operations. - FBL 2 (Full Bucket Line): Ficticious 100+ miles of Southwestern Desert railroading, well balanced scenery for good frame rates, mix of a double track mainline and a single track branchline with some spurs and sidings going to industries and other nice places, including a rocket testing area...- LeHigh Valley Routes. Some 70 miles of different RR's meeting / passing each other in the LeHigh Valley region. Not the final release yet, you need to get all scenery updates, but be warned that frame rates will go down due to the high density of scenery where it is finished.- Sea View 3 for a totally ficticious route of Pacific Island sightseeing. Funride, and some secrets & mysteries to resolve.- PRRR HooDoo Pass for a ficticious single track mountain railroading route. On other sites:
- Ohio Rail Build #10 (available at avsim.com).Waiting for (as announced by the authors, but release dates unknown, will be released when it's ready)
- Conrail Indy 2.0
- Rio Grande Cumbres Pass in fully scenicised NG-version
- FBL 3
- Mesaba Final version Just my personal opinion...Lukas a.k.a SwissieEdit: Use the list of routes in the Route Specification Forum to browse through the "official" descriptions of the routes by their respective creators - not all available routes are listed there, but those authors that have posted the description of their route there give you a good idea of what to expect from their work.

RE: Best Free Routes to Download

It is ok, I have been using this name for quite sometime now. I got the name from the way I play my PC games. Run them all at 1,600 by 1,200 32 bit, and that is a KILLER on the PC, hence the name. And thanks for your input about routes, I got a lot to get.

RE: Best Free Routes to Download

Ohio Rail is my favorite free route (find it at AVSIM). It is fictional but consists of two interconected railroad OR&W and WV&O with reasonable main line runs. There are also numerous branches and industrial areas for way fright operations. You also need to hunt down the special equipment at the same site (there are speparate packages for diesel and steam eras). There are also lots of activities. The route is growing currently at version 10. It is easy to install and has given me no trouble at all.Be Seeing you.

Another good route

LAST EDITED ON Aug-12-03 AT 07:04 PM (EDT)

Another good route if you're into European stuff is the Wupper Express, which can be found here: http://www.the-train.deBeware! The site is primarily German, though they have some pages in English as well, so be prepared to spend a frustrating few hours trying to decipher the setup instructions, which are in German. Also the activity pack which comes with the route has German-only instructions and all the rolling stock for the activities is spread out over several German sites, and just when you think you've got it all, there will still be a couple of bits that you will need to track down. It took me the better part of a day and I haven't even started to fix the cabviews for the locomotives yet.
