Oct-12-01, 09:36 PM (EST) 1. "RE: PO&N v3.1 --Tearing up the Tracks for v.4!" I've seen that before too, something about the video driver. I reinstalled the latest TNT drivers a few days ago, (Geforce 2 GTS clone, 64mb AGP) and I haven't seen it since then, but you never know. Oddly enough I tried raising my AGP aperture from the former "sweet spot" of 32 megs up to 128, and for the first time (knock on wood) it's not locking up on me with the higher aperture setting. I'm wondering now if there is some subtle flaw in that one stick of ram I removed, it was about the time I bought it that the problems started.
BTW, I'm sticking with my unrealistic grades, and I'll probably be uploading some hacked .eng files shortly after the route is done (about 3 more weeks), meantime you can always use a Really Usefull Engine for a helper. He doesn't mind if the grades are unrealistic as long as the view is spectacular.Message Areas - "PO&N v3.1 --Tearing up the Tracks for v.4!" – image 3Jim Ward

Oct-21-01, 12:53 PM (EST) 7. "RE: Off topic but I know Jim loves his choppers" Too bad microsoft can't come up with or license that kind of graphics engine. Kinda makes the whole Trainz VS MSTS argument kind of silly when you consider how many attack helicopter sims were released at the same time a few years back. Best eye candy was the one from Interactive Magic, I think. Downloading demo, but just from the screengrabs I would say that it looks like a winner.
Back on topic, need a little help from Country Boys and Cheesehead Packer Backers, I'm trying to make a Dairy:

Message Areas - "PO&N v3.1 --Tearing up the Tracks for v.4!" – image 7Couple questions, first is milk loaded in those stainless jugs on boxcars, reefers, pumped into white tankcars, or just sprayed at passing freight trains with a fire hose? I'm just guessing from the few times I've actually caught a glimpse of a Dairy, I don't even know if this is a close approximation.Second, I remember reading somewhere, Tom Sawyer I think, that cows grazing in a herd always face the same direction, downwind or something. If true, are there exceptions? Do bulls face the opposite direction? Mark Twain once said "Everybody's ignorant, only in different areas", and that sure applies to me when it comes to farming. And if horses wear horseshoes, how come cows don't wear cowshoes? And why didn't KUJU include any horses in MSTS objects? Too hard to draw the shoes? And why ain't there any "Amber Waves of Grain" textures?Jim Ward

Oct-24-01, 10:09 PM (EST) 24. "RE: Off topic but I know Jim loves his choppers" I prefer sportbikes myself.I've got a 1986 GSXR1100 that's in almost mint condition.Winter isn't necessarily a bad thing. While the bike is down this year I may put a turbo on it!125hp and wheelies at 130 aren't enough! Oct-25-01, 03:38 PM (EST) 26. "RE: Off topic but I know Jim loves his choppers" LOL A wheelie at that speed and I'd never get on the damn thing again!!Mines a 97 and in great condition. Rides like a dream, I would love a ZX-9 ( so would my insurance company )BUT I just picked up this one this yaer. They guy had some how only put 21 000 km on it in 4 years. Mind you the riding season here in Manitoba is only 6 months max, I only put 9000km on it since April.Oh well long winter ahead of meTim Kent

Oct-25-01, 05:41 PM (EST) 27. "RE: Off topic but I know Jim loves his choppers" Actually the 130mph wheelie was an accident.I don't deliberately try to pull wheelies because it's bad for the bike. But with that kind of power it happens whether you like it or not.The strange thing is how manageable the power is.I think my next bike will be a Triumph though.Curious CPR,have you ever been to Loudon,New Hampshire for the AMA national?Lots of great Canadian roadracing fans are there every year.Of course people like Miguel DuHamel and Pascal Picotte help bring them in.It's a great track in a great area. I think somthing like Laguna Seca would be pretty easy for me to head out to though...Its only about a 24 hour drive.....at CBR 600 speeds hehe.PS> K whats so hard on bikes with wheelies ( cause I love em )
Front fork seals / chain / ??? just curious
I know here in Canada it is an automatic 30 day suspension of your licence and you could be charged with reckless driving.Tim Kent

Oct-26-01, 05:56 AM (EST) 30. "RE: Off topic but I know Jim loves his choppers" Nice bike.Wheelies are bad for the frame at the steering head. It's also bad for the motor because the oil pump is usually at the front. The oil doesn't get pumped into the motor during the wheelie. Oct-26-01, 06:43 PM (EST) 32. "RE: Off topic but I know Jim loves his choppers" You know that CBR s actually a better bike than mine?Sure my bike has the monster motor, your's has the superior chassis and a very good motor. My first bike is a 1990 Kawasaki Zephyr550 which I bought new. With minor upgrades like a new exhaust and jet kit plus upgraded suspension,it's actually a better bike to ride up in the mountains.I love that GSXR for the same reason people love steam engines, tons of character. It's a rare bike.Sportbikes have improved so much in the 15 years since my bike was built it's crazy. The modern counterpart of my bike, the GSXR1000 makes almost 150hp at the rear wheel right off the showroom floor! But your F3 is still a better every day bike.I've ridden a few(worked in a Honda dealership/performance shop in Nyack NY)and they are excellent machines. All I ever see in the game is brown!!! Plus....I had to get an oxygen tank to breathe again after reading the part about spraying the train with a firehose as it went pass to load it!!! They are Holsteins. Your mega milk producers. The equiviant of the GM of cows! Browns such as Jerseys tend to be higher in butter fat. And what would Woody Jackson paint if he didn't have holsteins... Remove | Alert Edit | Reply | Reply With Quote | Top

Oct-22-01, 07:47 PM (EST) 16. "RE: Off topic but I know Jim loves his choppers" Baaaaa!
He's talking about in the sim. There's a "cow" and a "UScow" in the "clutter" section of the objects selector, the UScow is from Hershey, PA, the regular cow is the one that thinks it's a dalmation. Looks rather silly chasing a fire truck. Sadly for Bo, no sheep.
Off topic:
Yeah, I tried it, looks great but there don't seem to be a realism setting, so when you tilt it don't change altitude, feels like simplified flight controls. Hopefully there will be a setting for that in the actual sim, otherwise it's an arcade game. The graphics engine is stunning, tho, I didn't know direct3d was capable of that kind of smoothness.
Back on topic, I really do need to know what to use for cars if anyone has any ideas, altho there ain't no reefers (no, Bo, not that kind of reefer) in the original. At least I'm pretty sure you wouldn't use hoppers, they would tend to leak. Remove | Alert Edit | Reply | Reply With Quote | Top

"RE: Off topic but I know Jim loves his choppers" Actually the simplified controls are what i like so much about the game..Not too real that you get blown out the sky in seconds..But still real enough to get emmersed into some awsome fighting..Finnaly got all the little buggers last night..Great game.
Pity about the Reefers..
As for reefers how about this one ?
