New N-scale trains – image 1

LAST EDITED ON Jul-12-03 AT 10:15 PM (EDT)

Remember when i was blabbing on about a box of N-scale rolling stock in an antique store? I bought them just today. They appear to be in good shape, but ill leave that to experts. two cars came with Kadee couplers, the rest have regular Rapido couplers. I counted 14 cars (excluding the loco and caboose), and plenty of extra pins and trucks(overall price was $29, good deal?). Whoever it was that threw them all together must have been a big Great Northern fan, most of the cars are decorated for that line. Ill upload pics tomorrow.TRY now seeking volunteers, private message me for more info

> overall price was $29, good deal?Sounds fairly good to me: I recently bought a pre-owned N-Scale UP-passenger set (Kato E8A, six steel coaches, in immaculate condition including original boxes etc.) for a whooping 180 $ in one of the stores that tends to be on the discounter's end of the price range...Here in Switzerland I'd just get about two new N-scale US-freight cars for that price, maybe three if I went for the cheapest plastic stuff made in Wheresoever. Notice on the side: The comparison is a bit difficult as only a few specialised dealers will stock a considerable amount of US-cars and locos. Given their unique position, they are charging premium prices. Most "regular" model RR shops over here would sell mainly domestic models plus some assorted stuff from the neighbouring countries Germany, Italy, France & Austria. Among the "world-sellers" you'd certainly find a few US models in any store, such as the omnipresent Maerklin-BigBoy (albeit H0 scale, of course), a Zephyr trainset with F-Class motive power, maybe a few Kato N-scale US-items. RE: New N-scale trains

I had a good deal like that a few years back. My wife was checking out garage sales, and she called me to ask if $25.00 for a boxful of N-scale trains was good....I figured the amount of stuff she was describing was a lot for that price, even if it turned out to eb Bachmann junk.As it turned out, it wasn't junk!! Apparently the seller didn't know what it was worth, asked $25.00, and my wife bought a boxful that included one Kato F-7A in good working order except for broken couplers, a trio of passenger cars, and about two dozen freight cars!!No problem on the broken Rapido-style coupler on the F-7A as I usually change them to Micro-Trains anyway (and it sure is a task on those Kato F-7A's).BTW...Kadee does NOT make N-scale couplers. It's Micro-Trains. NOT Kadee. (They used to be one company, but apparently there was a family feud within....so they went separate ways.)

RE: New N-scale trains

Loco appears to be an EMD, but those three porthole windows on the side are strange to me. Maybe someone grafted a cab onto a B-unit?The trucks also don't look quite right on the cars they are visible on -- I'm thinking this is very old, early days of N-scale vintage.
