Oct-12-01, 02:02 AM (EST) "Illinois Central route download problem." Hi all.I am new to MSTS and to this site and forum and I have a small problem with the Illinois Central Route download. You see I only have a 56k internet connection with a 2hr cut off with my ISP and with the file for the above route being 76 megs in size it makes it impossible to download it all in one go.I did try to download with GetRight so I can resume the download after reconnecting every 2 hours but GetRight does not seem to work with this site.So can anyone tell me of any other site were I can download this route using GetRight or can anyone tell of a download program with resume that works with the file download section of this site.Sorry for the long post.Thanx.Keith. Oct-13-01, 10:08 AM (EST) 2. "RE: Illinois Central route download problem." Hi,A nice download accelerator program is Download Accelerator Plus; DAP.
http://www.speedbit.com/FAQ.asp?V=5.0.0.1It comes in two flavours:
- One free with ad's
- One payed without ad'sBoth function the same way. I use it for more than a year and I am very satisfied. It can resume too and the downloads are very fast in most of the time.I recommand you, give it a try.In contrary to Godzilla, DAP doesn't contain spyware.Dick van den Hoven Remove | Alert Edit | Reply | Reply With Quote | Top

Oct-13-01, 10:18 AM (EST) 3. "RE: Illinois Central route download problem." The problem is not your program, but that
you are signed out Automatically, so you cannot continue
Download. I use Reget, and what I do is:
1. I start downloading, and Pause it right before I disconnect.
2. After reconnecting to Internet, I log into File Section:
3. Delete My previous download, but DON'T Delete the temp file that has been made on Harddisk.
4. Go to same file and use your program to download it again.
5. Now download should start where you Paused and deleted Download.
Hope this works for you since some programs deletes Tepm file
automatically if you removed download from your download list.

Am I correct in assuming you are using one of those "free" ISPs?
Now I /never/ have money. Sometimes I go days without food even. But even I could pay $10 a month for a dialup, or $30-40 for DSL. Yes, that contributes to my not eating, but if you're a gamer, some sacrifices may be necessary.Check the download speed. If others who are also using dialup are getting good speeds (5-10KB/second) from the same site, then your ISP or phone company could be giving you poor service. Some older phone lines are capped at maximum transmission rates. There might not be much you can do about those, but it helps to know... At optimal transfer rates, even on a 56K, you should be able to download routes in under 2 hours. If you really want to keep using that "free" ISP (free is in quotes because they aren't really free in that you pay by having all your personal and browsing information sold for lots of $ to marketting companies) then try those download manager tricks mentioned by others, but be aware that those programs also sell information on you to marketers. Also be sure you frequently (every few minutes) delete any or all cookies or other temp files no matter what service you are using.-Andy

Oct-19-01, 12:15 PM (EST) 6. "RE: Illinois Central route download problem." i use DAP+ and it speeds up my downloads by as much as 500b/s in short bursts, from about around 250-300 then jumps to 800 sometimes 900 and back to 250, those short bursts help alot. before i had cable, i was getting as high as 15 or 20kbps on my old dialup in short bursts which was good too. so these download accelerators really do accelerate. i was a paus resume addict too, when ya hit pause and then resume, it would jump to about 50 or 60 and go down to normal around 5 or 10, just kept cliking pause resume over and over and enjoyed 30-60kbs downloads, doesnt work on everyone, but its worth a try.

As crayphish said, if you send a CD I'll email it back to you with the route. About 15 people have done that, in fact I mailed one out today. If you want to do that, email me at davidklemm7511@msn.comDavid Klemm
