Jun-15-01, 11:13 AM (EST) "Amtrack Cascades F59PHI engine ?" My office is located adjacent to the main BNSF North/South dual lines through Kent, Wa. Several times a day, the "Cascades" train goes by with a F59PHI on the north end and the non-aerodynamic F59PH? (I forget the exact letter for that one) on the south end. What I find odd is that the only engine running is the F59PHI regardless of which way it is traveling. (i.e. when running south bound, it is pushing, when north bound it is pulling.) Does any one know why they might run the train that way? Just curious! I'll try to get a picture, the lead and end coaches are pretty wild looking. Alert Edit | Reply | Reply With Quote | Top

It looks like a locomotive but there is no engine inside. It used in situations like what you saw, push pull service. It's used as a baggage car and has the cab still intact so the Engineer can control the other locomotive on the rear.A tell tale sign is a boxy looking locomotive with a roll up door on the side.TAP
