Our cat is going to die! :(

Our cat named Elton is going to be put to sleep today as he got a nasty virus making him unwilling to eat, he have had it for two weeks now and we've been trying everything to make him better but with no luck
He is a Birma/Seameise mix of only 2 years.So don't be supprised if I'll be sad today. /Jonatan

You have my sympathy also. Were I've lived for the last 29 years, we have had plenty of opportunity to have pets - sometimes more animals than people!.Over those years we've had quite a few pets which died, either naturaly or had to be euthanized. - dogs of all sizes, cats, birds, even a racoon. You never really get used to having to make the decision to end a pet's life, though experience does make it just a little bit easier.If you choose to get another cat, don't get one which reminds you of Elton - it's better to get something quite different. Each pet has it's own personality, so don't try to have one act as a surrogate for the predecessor - it's just not fair to the new one.My sympathy to you and your family.John

..I feel your pain. My wife and I have lost pets we've had for a long time..I don't care what anyone says..those pets are still family.
We all get rather attached to them.I am sorry for your loss.

We had a new dog the next morning. It was way to quite without one. Now I have 2 dogs and a cat. Plus the cat that seems to have taken up residence on the swing outside.Kevin Arceneaux

The best thing you can do is get another one ASAP to help get over your loss. Many people recommend keeping two pets, cats or dogs, so that if you lose one, you still have the other, making the loss less of an impact.Cal Rasmussen

Sorry to hear of your loss....it's hard to lose the little fellas, they are members of the family.I had to put my 16 year old down over a year ago -- kidney failure. And late last year, my 12 year old too, same situation. Both were big orange tabbies, and were the most lovable cats, anyone came to visit, they would sit with them, they'd love to watch me out in my workshop painting model railroad equipment, etc.Cal says to go out and get one right away -- good idea, but be very careful. My wife and I did just that after the 12 year old passed on. We thought we found the perfect cat at a local shelter, but he turned out to be one of the worst I'd ever dealt with (and my wife and I both volunteer at a cat adoption agency as well). He was sweet in the shelter, and for about a week at home -- and then he'd fli out, start attacking and biting in a rather vicious manner while we were asleep. It was a little too much to wake up with bloody hands and arms. Then we found out he'd been quarantined by the county shelter for bites on a previous occasion. Sorry, but that cat went back to the shelter, we could not deal with it.One day I got off work and for some reason decided to stop in at the county shelter...and the moment I walked in the door, found a cute orange tabby. I had good feelings about this guy -- so I called my wife at her office and had her come to the shelter. We decided to adopt him, and he's turned out to be another real sweetie as our two other orange tabbies were. He actually likes going for walks around the neighborhood on a leash!! Just be careful picking out a new friend....sometimes they are on their good behavior when they're "incarcerated" and when they get out, they act a little different. (gee, soudns like a lot of humans...)Again, sorry to hear of your loss.

Sorry to hear about that John. I used to have a Bagel name Bandit, but he passed away back in 1994 due to sickness. I do however have a 13 year old Siamese Cat name Sara. Your cat is in a better place.

Bud my condolences to you,but I'd say give it a bit of time to mourn for your feline pal before you replace him.
The wife and I just added the pitter patter of little paws to our household last December(Both from the same litter one gray named Smudge one black named Mughi)and they are great little kitties.
Hope you're able to find new pal as good as the one you lost.Gary S

Yeah, we had a yellow lab of 14 years get the same type of thing. It hurts alot, and the house never feels the same. Sorry to hear about your loss too.

We had a yellow lab named Amber, and she passed away (from a rare virus) she died when she was only 7 years old. I really miss her. But we got a new black lab named Lacey a few months back, she is so sweet. She seems to be our 'accidental' watch dog! LOL!See ya around!

I'm sorry about your cat. If it makes you feel any better, I once had all of my goldfish die in a 2 day period. I had about 5 of them. It was quite depressing because I had put in all their medicine and everything. The only thing I was somewhat relieved of is that they didn't suffer anymore than they had to. Sorry to hear about your loss, animals are sometimes harder to lose than humans as they give us so much and ask for nothing. The best thing is the suffering is over, sometimes it would be more humanne to let extremely ill people to also pass with some dignity instead of suffering for so long. Sorry to hear about your cat. A good cat can be a fine pet. I once had a great cat, who followed me around just like a dog would do. She was almost seventeen when I had to put her to sleep. I was faced with that painful decision four days after my wife of many years unexpectedly snuck out in the middle of the night, never to return. If I could have either of them back, I'd take the cat.Anthony

Sorry to hear about the cat. Never been a fan of cats personally, but I've had several dogs that lived quite long. (one was 19 years) It's amazing how attached to an animal you can become. As has already been said, they become a member of the family.-Jeff

OK, that virus is weird, because my second gerbil got it. I have lost two gerbils and three cats. 2 cats were put to sleep, the other one, a Maine Coon/Norwegian Forest cat, died of a heart defect that most large cats get. Once they get it, it's too late to cure it. Here's a tip: wait a while before getting another cat, otherwise you will not bond properly with the new one. Dang it, why must good-bye's be SO FREAKIN' HARD??????? :
