Oct-05-01, 09:09 PM (EST) "Lights on the SNOW PLOWS?" Program doesn't allow headlight to light when coupled to snow plow- is there a hack to light up the track in front? Should there be a headlight on the plow? I know the rotaries and Russel Plows had lights, but these little Auxilliary plows---I dunno..
By the way, a Russel Snow Plow would be a good one to create...Tim Alert Edit | Reply | Reply With Quote | Top

Oct-06-01, 04:59 AM (EST) 1. "RE: Lights on the SNOW PLOWS?" LAST EDITED ON Oct-06-01 AT 05:07 AM (EST)Hey TimThere are 2 ways to get the headlights to work when coupled to another car or plow on the front. Go into the engine file and change the unit ( 2 ) to unit ( 1 ) in the headlight section. Also change the sphere of light unit ( 2 ) to unit ( 1 ). This will make the headlights work and shine out front of the plow. This method limits the use of the lights when not coupled to the plow. The second method I recommend is to make a copy of the engine file and copy the sphere of lights and headlight sections to the engine file to be used in the locomotive. Then change the units in these new light sections to the examples above and leave the original lights as is. You should have 2 spheres of light and 2 headlight sections on the same engine file. Don't forget to change the number of lights at the top of the light section to indicate the extra lights you added if you go with the second method. Using the second method will let the lights work when coupled to the plow and the lights will work properly when the loco is on the point.I included some screen grabs to illistrate.Chuck

I want to have the lights on when pushing the plows. Thanks, Bob. Remove | Alert Edit | Reply | Reply With Quote | Top

Oct-06-01, 05:06 PM (EST) 5. "RE: Lights on the SNOW PLOWS?" Hey Bob and EustonHere is a copy of the edited ATSF RS 2 engine file showing the modified light panels. The original thread was using 2 RG SD40's. I also edited the sphere of light position and angle to a more prototypical light beam in front of the loco and plow. The original sphere of light settings on the RS 2 were to far ahead of the consist. Also this requires 2 locos or something coupled behind the loco pushing the plow for this to work. Railroads generally used two locos to push this type of equipment to remove snow banks on the tracks. This example dosen't show exactly the way it looks in the engine file due to the margins in the post. You can either write it into the engine file or copy it from a copy of the engine file. This will work on any locomotive used for pushing the plow. You should also have a backup of the original engine file in case anything goes wrong. The reason for the extra light sections is so the lights will work when the loco is not pushing a plow.ChuckLights ( 11
