Oct-01-01, 09:59 PM (EST) 1. "RE: Help with graphics card" mentallica12:A search for D3DIM700.DLL shows that it is indeed associated with DirextX.I'd suggest that you run the DirectX Diagnostic Tool...and/or...reinstall DirectX 8.0a. DirectX 8.0a is included on the Train Simulator CD...you should also be able to get it from the Windows Update site.4.08.00.0400 = DirectX 8.0 / 8.0a
4.07.01.3000 = DirectX 7.1 (DirectX 7.1 is a part of the default Windows ME installation)
4.07.00.0716 = DirectX 7.0a
4.07.00.0700 = DirectX 7.0 (DirectX 7.0 is a part of the default Windows 2000 installation)
4.06.03.0518 = DirectX 6.1a
4.06.02.0436 = DirectX 6.1
4.06.00.0318 = DirectX 6.0I'm sure you already know that an absolute minimum requirement for TrainSim...is a video card with at least 4 MB memory...and DirextX 8.0 / 8.0a.In looking at the information for your card on ATI's site...I really don't see any reason why you shouldn't be able to install DirectX 8.0 / 8.0a...as long as you already have DirectX 6.1 or higher on your system.Rage IIc Products:

Oct-26-01, 08:19 PM (EST) 2. "RE: Help with graphics card" Greetings,I have just joined the Rage IIC crowd it would seem.I just upgraded my PC to a Athlon @1G, 512M of RAM, for the express purpose of doing better with Route Designing. However, my local PC shop could not get my ATI Radeon (32M), PCI based card to work with this set up, and claimed it was sick, so they sold me a new ATI Rage IIC which evidently has 8M onboard. I am having the same problem as you, but I am going to reload Direct-X 8.0a, which I already have, because I think the PC shop may have loaded the video drivers after reloading Direct-X. Profiling should also work, but please keep us (and me) posted on how it works out for you. My wife will want equivalent ransom if I have to go out and get a new AGP card, after spending $430 to upgrade the PC.Several friends tell me that PCI based video cards will get in trouble with processors running more than about 500M, so I doubt that the card is really sick, just incompatible.J. Oct-26-01, 09:09 PM (EST) 3. "RE: Help with graphics card" I tried the trouble shooting approach, and got the program to run up to the point of actually setting up a run, although the visual effect is not good, blocky text etc. Problem with my card was that I had to bypass the Pixel Behavior test. Later I am going to turn off hardware acceleration etc. and see if it improves.However, when I tried to run a train, the program crashed with an error indicating "Train World Initialization Failure". I had it working pretty well on my system prior to upgrade. That system was a Pentium-MMX 266MHz, with 64M of Ram, using the ATI Radeon 32M board. There is a 3G and a 15G disk on the system as well as a HP CD/W unit. Other programs run fine, but I will also be playing with all three FLight Sims.I suspect this most recent error has to do with extraneous programs in the background.J. H. Sullivan, P.E.
