The NALW K5LA is as close as it gets to a GOOD sounding K5LA....The ones on Amtrak locomotives all sound different, owing to age, crap in the horns, mounting location (they sound awful on the F59PHI's as they are buried under a roof piece!!)We used to have a certain bunch of F40's running the line behind my residence, and each one was different enough that I could tell what unit was passing.
Of course the 2 recordings will sounds different folks! One is of a push button horn (constant sound) the other is from one with a valve and the air is regulated into the bells of the horn at different times (quilling the horn)..There are also MANY other variables that make the same horn sound different at a given time..cdntrains "Railroading from SEA to SKY"
