UP commercial – image 1

LAST EDITED ON Jun-03-03 AT 10:50 PM (EDT)

I was surprised to see, when I was watching Fox with my grandmother (I do not want this to be a debate of if Fox is conservitive or the Networks are liberal) a commercial for UP. It talked about how america is opened by the 40,000 employees of the Union Pacific. It shows tracks, then a field, then a train. Do you think ths is a change in UP's public policy?Edit I put Up instead of UP in the titleThanks!

I haven't seen that exact one, I don't think. I have, however seen a UP commercial on television, and I'm not entirely sure why the UP has commercials in territory that decidedly doesn't belong to it. NB: David R. Goode, call your office. I don't know what kind of "change" you're trying to spot in the UP's public policy, but I'd rather see them wasting money than the local competition. Go NS. On a completely unrelated note, I got two books today, the Railroad Color History volumes for the Baltimore & Ohio and the New York Central System; from my perspective, they're well worth the eight bucks per that I paid for them. Much thanks to Dadbill and to guys like Jeff Link and the group he's with for allowing me to say, "Hey! I've got that!" for various locomotives and schemes throughout. Now if only someone'd get on the stick with those Baldwin Babyface types or the "S-motor" center cab things...

I've seen the UP commercial several times while watching the Fox News channel (only one I watch).

I've seen two or three different UP commercials on rotation on all the Fox networks, though I mainly watch them for races... and I think the whole point of running the commercials nationally is to raise public awareness of the railroad.Very good commercials, IMO... railroady, yet still modern. Much better than the Norfolk Southern commercials that ran on CNN and seemed to try and de-emphasize the railroad.RDF

Ive seen one of of those commercials too, about as far away from UP territory as you can get, up here in Connecticut. We don't even have CSX here. Closest big railroad is CSX Massachusetts mainline. SO I was a bit surprised to see that commercial.Frank Roberts

Hrrm. That makes sense---aiming at transcontinental businesses with the home offices on the East Coast, I presume?

I watch Fox News all the time, but sometimes I switch it to Scarbrough Country on MSNBC. While watching Fox ( dont know which show) but they cut into the broadcast for the stock market update and next to the title on the bottom was the UPRR shield. I thought it was some news about UPRR stock but they didnt mention anything about the railroad, man are they trying to advertizeUP commercial – image 9
