Anyone saw this movie where the two Amtrak trains are on a collision course with each other. At the beginning of the movie one of the engineers are beat up and another guy takes his place. He runs the train and knows they are on a collision course. Then MOW crews build a crossover in like 30 min and the other train crosses over. But the black guy stands in front of the train and moves out of the way right before he gets hit? I think the cars get uncoupled and the loco derails I think. Its kinda a silly movie but I liked it. Been trying to find it on VHS or DVD for a while. Anyone know where I can search?

RE: Disaster Coastliner

It was a Made-for-TV movie. Not sure if it ever was released on video...I taped it off TV like 10 yrs ago or something, it's buried at my parents house somewhere, assuming it hasn't been taped over. If i ever run across it and the picture's still ok, i'll let you know.------ BUZZ ------

RE: Disaster Coastliner

The name of the movie was actually "Disaster on the Coastliner" and starred Mike Connors, Lloyd Bridges, Robert Fuller, Pat Hingle, E. G. Marshall, Yvette Mimieux and William Shatner. I remember seeing this movie only once, but it was pretty good. I did a google search but all I could find were a few synopsys' It doesn't look like it's been released on Video. Another similar type movie I remember was a Metro-North train, ( I Believe it actually was before they called it Metro-North but still run by the MTA at the time!) which I believe was a Hudson line MU train being Hijacked. This was another made for TV movie which was also pretty good. but I don't remember the name of it. Does anybody else?

I also saw this movie in like 1985 or 1986 a buddy of mine had taped it off of the TV. the Locomotive that was used for the crashes was a model I remember reading about it in an issue of Model Railrodar I don't remember what the scale of it was, but it was pretty large, anyway they did 3 or 4 takes and the owner of the model said stop your destroying my model or something like that.

That movie was one of the WORST pieces of ##### ever made!!!Many of the exterior scenes were the San Diegans whizzing through Camp Pendleton with Amfleet cars behind; the engine was Amtrak 221 in the original striping as delivered. The interior scenes on the train were all phony mockups in a studio....none of which even resembled the Amfleet exteriors being shown. And the whole situation was supposed to take place in "East Lyme, California". Lots more of the exterior scenes were done in East Lyme...CONNECTICUT!!!! There is NO scenery like that anywhere in California. The engine used in these scenes was Amtrak 213 in the three-equal-size red/white/blue stripe livery!!!The wreck scene was done using two different F40 models that were about the same size as many live steamers; they were 1-1/2 inches to the foot. Those scenes were filmed in San Timoteo Canyon, east of Colton/San Bernardino area near today's UP line (former SP). I knew someone who had photos of the models before and after the wreck, and he told me exactly where they filmed it. The track crew building the crossover was filmed, believe it or not, bacK on the NH/PC/CR line in Westerly, Rhode Island!!!
