POLL: HOW PROTOTYPICAL ARE YOU?? If you run a modern day railroad (1996-Present), on MSTS, do you usually include a Crummy in your consist? Posted by imprezzed on May-31-03, 02:33 AM EDT

I'm just wondering 'cause I seem to be tacking a Pointe St. Charles van on the rear of my CN consists even though they're being pulled by Dash-9's. Go Figure.I wanna know how many people also do this, even though it's not technically protoytpical. Don't start griping about work and MOW trains. I mean real hotshots.
I wanna highball it through Woodstock, Ont. on none other than...THE TURBOTRAIN!!!

--You are reading my signature now, don't waste your time reading it!-- One morning, I woke up(Duh!) Then I ate breakfast. I ate green eggs and ham. It looked tasty! But after a while, my stomach didn't feel quite well. So I ran to the toilet! And guess what? I let out a giant FART! Did anyone feel a giant earthquake? Oops? Where has my favourite LUL train gone? Maybe it was sent for bolt checking again...

I voted no, but only 'cause I haven't gotten around to installing the recent releases of the N&W caboose fleet, and because I keep forgetting to tack them on. Admittedly, most of my MSTS activity recently has either been fallen flag passenger service (However, I'm certain that the Anthracite Lass absolutely hates the Marias Pass, as do most of the Alco PA-1s I've used in recent weeks.) or various operational tests, so a caboose hasn't been called for. When it occurs to me, I'll usually stick the MLT C&O caboose from Sandpatch on the back and go for it. Once I get those N&W examples fully configured, FRED is fired. I saw an NS caboose yesterday---warmed the heart and got the day off to a great start, it did---and it ain't railroadin' if there ain't a big red box at the end of the train. I reckon now the job is to convince someone to paint a "new" NS caboose as it would look if it rolled out of the shops today, newly designed and newly lettered. Using a legitimate discussion topic to shoehorn in somethin' else, I'm still not convinced that 'prototypical' being used in this context either makes good sense or is accurate, and I'm half-tempted to write William F. Buckley for a ruling on it.

my period of time is the 1994-1996 so mines is mostly SP and BNSF right after the merger. So therefore I use Heritage 1 and patch job BNSF locos on the run through trains. The train I use a caboose on is the special move that I have which uses the big generator load, a couple MOW trains, and one local. But I usually dont use them though.
Oh thanks for answering that for me I don't use them on my freight train but I do use them on most of my old steam freight consist and helper service consist ( When I only have two or three locos without any cars )My website for MSTS Pic's www.msnusers.com/shanestrains

Down Here where I live ( Off the Antelope Valley Metrolink Line) there is a UP kinda like a shortline train that runs boxcars from Via Princessa to LA Union Station and it has an old SP Bay Window Caboose on it .My website for MSTS Pic's www.msnusers.com/shanestrains
