Sep-27-01, 07:38 PM (EST) "X2000 Information Needed" I've been wondering, does the Swedish X2000 have a restaurant car? Also, can 2 X2000s be coupled together? How many power cars does the X2000 have? From what I've seen, it has 1. Are the X2000's cars fixed together like the TGV? Or can they be de-coupled?How many First Class seats does the X2000 have? Second Class?Regards. Sep-29-01, 12:26 PM (EST) 2. "RE: X2000 Information Needed" once more:no, x2's can normally not be coupled together (it's not needed in Sweden anyway), they are built like "icebreakers" in the ends to make sure the train remains on track when smashing cars or other stuff at a high speed.from what i've heard it's not an easy task to uncouple those trains, that's why they are maintenanced as a whole.Good Luck againAnd visit my suggestions on an MSTS add-on naming standard:

Sep-29-01, 09:55 PM (EST) 3. "RE: X2000 Information Needed" Thank you very much for the information.
In the following pictures, it looks they took off the nose cover, and there are couplers.
So am I correct when I say it is possible to couple 2 X2000s together? The following pictures shows an X2000 with 1 engine, 5 cars, and 1 car with steering control (on the other end). Totaling 1 engine, and 6 passenger cars.
Does this mean some X2000s come with 6 passenger cars?Thank you for your help.Regards. Remove | Alert Edit | Reply | Reply With Quote | Top

Sep-29-01, 10:07 PM (EST) 4. "RE: X2000 Information Needed" Yeah but where is the cover?
There is no luggage section within the X2000.
Besides, the X2000 that ran on the Northeast is back
in Sweden. It sometimes services my morning train from
Lund to Mjölby. They put a notice about this trainset's history in the Bistro car.Damn You're right. I missed one 2nd calls car, number five. Right now there is a big maintenance problem of the X2. That's why it gets cancelled quite often. Or some cars are missing.Markus

Sep-29-01, 10:10 PM (EST) 5. "RE: X2000 Information Needed" Now I took a look again: that's an american coupler. Maybe a requirement from the Board of Transportation in order to pull away the train when it get's a malfunction...In Sweden I still don't know what's under the hood but I will ask my teacher on Monday...Markus

Sep-29-01, 10:15 PM (EST) 6. "RE: X2000 Information Needed" It looks like they removed the nose cover because they were going to attach 2 of them together. This was back when Amtrak was actually interested in the X2000 for the Northeast Corridor. They leased a couple of them for testing, and they had a few shows where people could come and see the train in action. However, they decided to go with the Acela Express.Looks like in this picture they were demonstrating its ability to be coupled with a second X2000.Thank you again.Kindest Regards. Sep-29-01, 10:20 PM (EST) 8. "RE: X2000 Information Needed" Most High-Speet Train-sets can be coupled together. I know for a fact that the Acela Express, ICE (all of them), TGVs, and the new Swiss ICN IC-2000 tilting-train can be coupled together.
By the way, the new Swiss ICN IC-2000 is a very nice tilting-train, I went on it this summer.I've never been on the X2000, but it sure looks like a great train.Regards. Remove | Alert Edit | Reply | Reply With Quote | Top

Sep-29-01, 10:27 PM (EST) 9. "RE: X2000 Information Needed" Well, i do believe even the Swedish X2 can be coupled with other things. But it is not done in practice that's for sure. Where shoulde the "nose" hide? The X2 is not built as the ICE3...On monday I'll get the final answers, first I will ride the train (as a passenger), and then my driving teacher will tell me...Markus

Sep-29-01, 10:37 PM (EST) 10. "RE: X2000 Information Needed" You are right, the nose can't hide. Infact if you look up close, you will see that there is no way that the nose can slide back inside like the ICE 3's. My guess is the nose is removed when they want to join 2 together.Take a look at this picture:
No way that the nose can slide back inside. Looks like the cover is removed. There is another picture of the X2000 with the nose cover removed, I'll see if I can find it.Regards. Remove | Alert Edit | Reply | Reply With Quote | Top

Sep-29-01, 10:53 PM (EST) 11. "RE: X2000 Information Needed" By the way, why doesn't the engine car tilt? I always thought that in a tilting train, everything tilts.Regards. Remove | Alert Edit | Reply | Reply With Quote | Top

Sep-29-01, 11:25 PM (EST) 12. "RE: X2000 Information Needed" No, it does not tilt. It's hard to drive it in those curves people assure me. The tilting in the x2000 is for comfort only, sometimes a car has a not working tilt and that is no safety problem.
I was wondering too, the first time, but that's how things work up here.Markus

>X2000. Actually, I saw the X2000 when it was on its national tour. Because most of Amtrak's route structure is non-electrified trackage, to have it tour the country, they had to make provisions for it to be able to be moved by diesels on the tour. I suspect the coupler was installed specifically for the national tour--the other end had the standard nosepiece in place. If it was intended for being used to rescue a stranded one, they'd have put a coupler at each end.During the national tour, they had the X2000 powered by two F40PH diesel locomotives (like the one in the background of the photo) and a baggage car that was equipped with a generator to provide lights to the train. Headed westbound, the train was controlled from the X2000 cab; eastbound, it was controlled from the F40.RDF

Oct-01-01, 05:55 PM (EST) 14. "RE: X2000 Information Needed" I got a chance to ride it from St. Louis, MO to Springfield, IL. on its national tour. It was a nice train, but a very poor demonstration of its abilities as that is not a very good section of track, and the F40s were the power since that line is also not electrified! Since we never got to go very fast, the tilt system really didn't do anything.----- BUZZ Remove | Alert Edit | Reply | Reply With Quote | Top

Tomorrow I will ride again.Markus

Nov-09-01, 01:45 PM (EST) 16. "RE: X2000 Information Needed" I dont know the facts, but the X2000 nose may operate similar to the way the old BR Advanced Passenger Train nose worked, in that it sort of 'slid up' or folded up to lie flat on the (upper) nose. See here: http://www.therailwayage.co.uk/apt/APTNoseEnd.htmMaybe it has this, maybe it doesnt. There has to be some sort of coupler, even britain's Intercity 125 HST has a towing bar stored in the back of the engine so that a failed unit can be towed. By the way, in the UK, stand by locos to rescue stricken trains are called 'Thunderbirds', in reference to the 1960s Gerry Anderson puppet TV series of the same name. Nov-09-01, 04:23 PM (EST) 18. "RE: X2000 Information Needed" Hey, somebody thinking about making the APT??? This thing would be great for a "what-if" scenario. Of course we'd also need somebody to make the West Coast route where the APT was supposed to run had it entered regular service.
