Sep-25-01, 05:20 AM (EST) "How much time with MSTS." Just wondering how much time, especially those who keep the file library fresh with wonderous things, how much of your time does MSTS consume? I have found that to make any progress with my route project I need to spend at least 4 hours a day on it, and even that is at the expense of other projects.
How do you find time to work with this without letting other activities, such as eating and sleeping suffer.
I don't socialise quite so much, I barely watch any TV now except the late evening news and I seem to have lost that book I was reading. My fitness regime has also taken a back seat and the meals I cook have been uninspired.
Thats not to say that I have become obsessed and that this thing occupies all of my time, indeed sometimes I can't be arsed with the darned thing, but it has definitely found itself toward the top in my daily hierarchy of activity.
Has anyone noticed any ill effects on their lifestyle since this game hit the shelves? Alert Edit | Reply | Reply With Quote | Top

Evidently, Too Much; when my wife comes in after 1 am and finds me hunched over the 'puter, face glued to the screen, eyes bugged out and bloodshot then says "You spend more time with your computer than with me!" then it's more time than I should be. It's almost got a life of it's own and is very time-consuming. Alot of it, as Euston says, fixing Boo-Boos! I also spend alot of time on this forum. It's a good place.Tim Remove | Alert Edit | Reply | Reply With Quote | Top

I still try to take a walk every day for some exercise, spend some time with a book or magazine, get out and fly once a week or so and socialize a bit. Having a strong interest in a hobby is a great but you have to be careful not to let it rule your life.

Sep-25-01, 08:04 PM (EST) 4. "RE: How much time with MSTS." Unfortunately, I have almost no time at present to use it. Hopefully the renovations on the house won't last too much longer.. maybe a week or two at most.. then I can play it again. Remove | Alert Edit | Reply | Reply With Quote | Top

Sep-26-01, 00:13 AM (EST) 5. "RE: How much time with MSTS." I'd say that the answer is the same as Gordon Baxter's answer to the question, "How much money does it take to fly?"His response, every time: "All of it."RDF

Sep-26-01, 07:09 AM (EST) 6. "RE: How much time with MSTS." I spend about 4 hours a day on MSTS ..being the wife works an evening shift and dont get home till 10:00 that gives me the evenings free..
After working all day at John Deere as a service tech, I look forwards to a quiet evening at home!! I have been a computer buff since 1990 and i enjoy the keyboard!!
I look forwards getting the newest Train Sim downloads , building "MY Route" , editing files, ect ect , and of course playing the sim!!! Remove | Alert Edit | Reply | Reply With Quote | Top

I don't spend nearly as much time as I'd like..maybe 4-5 hrs
a week. Between work, the kids needing the computer for homework, etc and other stuff, I don't get much time. But,
I love it..

Sep-26-01, 11:05 AM (EST) 8. "RE: How much time with MSTS." I'm not certain--my subscription to Flying ran out back in '95--but I think we lost ol' Bax a couple years back. I'm also wondering if maybe we lost Len Morgan, since his column no longer runs there, either...(Er, to try and tie this back into railroading... did anyone else here know that Len Morgan's brother was the late David P. Morgan, longtime editor of Trains?)RDF

I believe Baxter is still alive..they ran an article several
months ago when another Flying Mag writer took him up for
a ride..I didn't gather what his illness was, but it sounded
like Alzheimers. And, I believe Len Morgan is still alive..he just completely
retired from writing, though occasionally he has an article
in there. I really miss his columns, though.
