Sep-24-01, 06:43 PM (EST) "Hey Sniper... Good news!" I recently sent you an email about not being able to pick up the helper engine(s) from the helper pocket on P O & N V3 I cannot pick them up when I am using default engines. However recently I started uphill towards 77 with old RS#26 that I downloaded and had no trouble at all. I ran around the two engines in the house, coupled on (with the rear coupler),drove them out to the main line, hooked up to the consist and boogied right on up to 77to do some switching there. On the way back I dropped off the helpers and continued on my merry way. It worked out great! The little RS didn't have enough gonads to make it alone but the helpers were just what I needed. Just wanted to let you know the results. Thanks for a great route, earl Alert Edit | Reply | Reply With Quote | Top

Sep-24-01, 08:17 PM (EST) 1. "RE: Hey Sniper... Good news!" Hey, yer welcome and all. I never heard of that one, and also never heard any feedback on the new PO&N Sd40s either, but I finally got tired of drooling over them and taking screenshots and started playing with them. Much to my surprise, substituting SD40s as helpers gave me the same kind of problem, won't couple at 2 or 3 mph, derails at 4 mph. Well, I was over in the Loco design forum arguing realistic versus what looks and feels real with the physics gurus, but I couldn't budge them so I'm gonna be hackin most of the PO&N engines for about 10 to 25% more power anyway, so I raised the derail buffer force from 200KN to 700KN for the SD40s, which fixes the coupling problem. I can couple on with the hack at 1 to 4 mph, 5 is iffy, 6 bumps and don't couple, 7 derails the cars. I always thought the idea of a 166 ton locomotive getting knocked off the rails at 5 mph seemed kind of silly anyway, I don't care if it is supposed to be realistic. The original GP38s that came from KUJU are overpowered according to physics 3.0, so be advised if you download one of the newer paints that includes physics 3.0 you'll either have to hack the eng file or use more helpers. For the South pass on the PO&N with physics 3.0 the correct ratio is about 3 engines to pull one empty car. Good luck. Remove | Alert Edit | Reply | Reply With Quote | Top
