Jun-12-01, 04:46 PM (EST) "Dash 9 and SD40-2 Upgrade" Hi, Just wanted to let everyone know that I have a fix for the BNSF Dash 9, Heritage 1/Heritage 2, CSX Dash 9 and the BNSF SD40-2 too make the engines pull as the real boys do it. Since I have no clue on how to upload to Train-sim.com I'll have them on my website for download. http://www.geocities.com/knottrunks/ Look below all the Amtrak photos....but feel free to enjoy them. Make sure you back up ALL your .eng files you decide to upgrade. I'm working on TRYING to figure out how to have constant lighting on the 2 Dash 9s. More fixes coming soon...Brian BundridgeP.S. Nel, if you read this, can you do the constant lighting fix for the Dash 9s for me? Thanks alot. Alert Edit | Reply | Reply With Quote | Top

Jun-12-01, 07:56 PM (EST) 2. "RE: Dash 9 and SD40-2 Upgrade" The constant lighting fix is already around. I think it was over at http://communities.msn.com/TrainSimulatorFanSite/trainsimmessageboardsjoinin.msnw
in the files...hacks and upgrades.Eventually, all of those files over will be over here, as this is The planned home of those posting over there. Nels and others are undertaking the monumental task of organizing the forums to where they are actually managable. (Thanks Nels and Robert)By the way. I like the constant ditchlights, but I changed the rate that the default ones flashed to a slower rate and I like it much better. Anybody know the actual Flashes Per Minute of the real ones? Jun-13-01, 00:01 AM (EST) 3. "RE: Dash 9 and SD40-2 Upgrade" I'm not sure of the flash rate, it should be slower than the default. On most railroads the ditchlights only flash when you are coming to a grade crossing ,otherwise they are constant. Just started learning my way around the .eng file. If the ditch lite flashing could be tied to the bell being on that would be the closest to the prototype. Sound horn, bell starts to ring ,ditchlights flash. Shut bell off, ditch lights go to constant. Anyone figured out if we can do Mars or gyralights yet?
Mars lights were mounted above or below the headlights, were as bright and did a pattern like a figure 8 layed on its side. Gyra lights did more of a conical scan. A lot of older engines used them and I still see them on Kansas City Southern units on every now and then. Older Burlington units often had a yellow flashing beacon on the roof. Let me know if anyone has ideas about these effects. Remove | Alert Edit | Reply | Reply With Quote | Top

Jul-11-01, 08:21 AM (EST) 4. "RE: Dash 9 and SD40-2 Upgrade" As I recall, Sante Fe and BNSF locos didn't use flashing ditch lites. Only the BN SD 60M's and certain retrofitted locos like BN SD40-2's use them. When the two railroads merged, Sante Fe personel were in charge and used Sante Fe practices. Jul-11-01, 02:44 PM (EST) 5. "RE: Dash 9 and SD40-2 Upgrade" Every Railroad and commuter line has different set ditchlights. The Amtrak F59PHI's are tied into the bell...each time the bell sounds, the lights change. On the Sounder F59PHI and there Cab Cars, they're a quick flash, simular to the BNSF Dash 9 in MSTS.As with all and many commuter and Amtrak engines, each are different. I'll try to make a .GIF file of the locos to sim. the different... (hope my camara is up to it!!)Brian Remove | Alert Edit | Reply | Reply With Quote | Top

Jul-16-01, 01:16 AM (EST) 6. "RE: Dash 9 and SD40-2 Upgrade" What the heck is a constant lighting fix? On my desk top railroad the lights are always bright until you switch the head light to off or to dim. I'm working on changing the effects, if that's what you are refering to, e-mail me and maybe we can throw some ideas around. Remove | Alert Edit | Reply | Reply With Quote | Top

Jul-16-01, 03:01 PM (EST) 8. "RE: Dash 9 and SD40-2 Upgrade" I really knew what you were talking about. You change the states to 1 and duration to 0.0 and delete the bottom section for each ditch light to stay on. Remove | Alert Edit | Reply | Reply With Quote | Top

Jul-19-01, 00:12 AM (EST) 9. "RE: Dash 9 and SD40-2 Upgrade" It is not always the bottom portion of the flashing ditch lights that you remove to make them constant. One ditchlight starts White "ffffffff" and the other starts clear "00000000". Because the duration is the same for all 4, they alternate. So basically, remove the section that has the color "00000000". Otherwise you'll just have a burnt out bulb. <gr> Remove | Alert Edit | Reply | Reply With Quote | Top

Jul-19-01, 05:55 PM (EST) 10. "RE: Dash 9 and SD40-2 Upgrade" You are right, I flubbed my reply. You can also change brightness of all the lights in each section by changing the ffffffff to for instance 90ffffff or whatever to change the intencity. Jul-19-01, 10:45 PM (EST) 11. "RE: Dash 9 and SD40-2 Upgrade" PS As an experiment I changed both 00000000 conditions for the ditch lights to ffffffff. IT worked on the loco, no flashing, however I don't think the computer liked it because the frames went down to 4. It could have been a fluke as I didn't do that again. I'LL play with it later.
