I see that the file library has the NEC in ver. 4 and I would like to download it but I have so much downloaded already as my hard drive has about 3 gb left on it. Also I want to save hard drive space for the Tehachapi II when it becomes avail. Is this ver 4.0 worth the hard drive space it would take up?
Also I hope when the Nec is extended further north from Phila that the 'High Line' is also extended to Zoo interlocking and that the surburban level of 30th st. station is included as well as the tracks to the close by Surburban station; I hope that this is not asking too much from the developers who are trying this. This in itself would make the sim much more interesting and challenging to run......

RE: NEC VER 4.0

I don't have the hard drive issue that you have, but usually what I do is download and install a route, and then burn the route folder to a cd. That way I can remove and install it with ease at my leisure as my interests change. I have several routes on CD that are not on my system, and the NECv4 is one of them.

NEC V4.0 kicks the default in the ass as far as I'm concerned.
it's so good I even have it backed up onto CD.

RE: NEC VER 4.0

I too have to say that NEC4 is one of the best routes ever made. Two mainlines, complete with commuter and passenger stations, small portions of Baltimore and Washington lightrail/subway lines, and the scenery is suberb. When you enter a yard, you actually feel like your in a yard; fences, shacks, overhead lights. Can't say enough about this great route. It sounds like you need to expand your hard drive space for one, or copy some of your other routes to CD to make room for new ones. It is a common practice of simmers to run a route, then back it up to CD and delete it. I personally have about 20 routes, of about which 12 are installed on my harddrive. I use to have about 40 routes, but I got rid of many becasue they were no longer up to snuff with the others. Chris Bogley

RE: NEC VER 4.0

The only rotes I have showing in my MSTS Route Tree are:Marias Pass Version 3.1
Crawford Hill
NEC V4.0
my Test Track
and the Full Bucket Line
(and once i get it) ADFRR because it has a self installer. If any route has a self installer I get it. So much easier
Raton Pass and the 6 defaults are stored away. I used Train Store to store the route I ain't using away

RE: NEC VER 4.0

I'll offer two thoughts. First, NECv4 is a superb route, very detailed with lots of new track to explore, without doubt among the very best out there. But even with a high-end system, it's tough on FPS, which is an irritant but no reason not to have it. As far as disc space, it's really not all that bad, 258 MB on my system. But it's what's packed into that...very rich in detail and attention to realistic modeling.Second thought, if you'd like to operated past Zoo Tower, go to the library and download George Meyhoefer's NEC Extension (necext1.zip), which was an early attempt to extend the default NEC to North Philadelphia and uses mostly default scenery objects. It's rich on trackage but has a couple scenery issues that were tough for the builder to get around, but still well worth the effort. But if you are concered the NECv4 will impact your disc space, this one put my hybrid NEC (which I've added to for my own use) well over 1 GB in size. It's also an FPS killer, particularly in the vicinity of 30th Street Station. It's kind of ironic to have so much track available but not the system/software capability that will allow realistic static consists or AI traffic.Aloha, Jeff Link

RE: NEC VER 4.0

NEC v4 is worth more than the hard disk space it takes up. Admittedly it's 250mb, but it's well worth it. A fine piece of work Mr Cockeram! From all that's been said about an NYC extension, Zoo etc would require Xtracks - which presents problems as NEC4 is built using default sections. We'd all love an NYC extension, probably better to build an NYC-PHI section as itself, thus the NEC in total would be in 4 sections: DC-PHI, PHI-NYC, NYC-New Haven, NH-BOS.

I can agree with that, have the NEC built in stages rather than all one route cause just think if it's 250MB's now, then imagine what the size would be after....well over a GBP RobinsonNec Ver 4.0 – image 3
