Well while in Pine Bluff last Saturday as I drove by the old diesel shops in Pine Bluff(now closed except for light repairs) and i saw these tarped units. I wondered what they were. But after a little research, they are going to Venuzulea to Oronoce Mining Co. These units have UP yellow, the new cab design, flared radiators, and even a lightning stripe. The first shot is at Pine Bluff, and the next shot is at Canada. The first shot is mine, but the last one isnt.
it would be interesting to see these working outside the US. What do you think about it? Notice the only difference is no wings on the front and no Union Pacific Building america on the side. Looks kinda weird doesnt it?

Yeah thats not everyday, I think they went out on MPBBV(Pine Bluff-Brownsville, TX) or MPBSA (Pine Bluff-San Antonio). All of the export units going south through here are usually on those trains.
A freind of mines told me that the tarps were to keep the oceans salty water off of them because it will ruin the paint. Logical solution i guess.

This is a first for the SD70. Until now, it had never found a customer outside North America. On the other hand, it's rival, the GE Dash 9, has been used in Australia and Brazil for years.Jonathan Nikiforovs.

Didn't a Peruvian Ore Mine buy standard-cab SD70s a few years ago?Oh, and while it may not be 'real' SD70s, both the Westrail Q-class operating in Australia, and the JT42CWR operating in Great Britain, Belgium, the Netherlands, Germany, Sweden and Norway are also based heavily on the SD70

Nice looking units! I'm glad to see EMD finally made a nice looking 3rd generaton widecab! Looks much nicer then the 90MAC-H PHII cabs. The flared radiators also add a nice touch to it, like the old SD45s.Take care!Kurt
