Railfanning in Shreveport, LA last week (28 Mar 03). Using the new scanner, and trying to figure out the names of all the control points in the area, so I'd know what was going on (I was only visiting; don't know the area real well). Also fiddling with new camera, perusing its manual. Then I decided I better attach the lens, and get out of the van and have a look around, to set up possible shots, find obstructions, and in general, "get ready." Climbed out of the van, and here's this KCS job, right on top of me, with CSX and UP power leading. KCS and TFM power running 3 and 4 in power lashup. I'd never seen TFM before, so I was pretty happy. Then I caught movement behind me, and turned to see another train creeping toward me from the opposite direction, with BNSF and NS power. Holy Sh*t! I could barely get the camera up quick enough. Even with the lens at 28mm, I couldn't get all five Class Ones in one frame before they started blocking each other out. And yes, there's a damn telephone pole right in the way. And yes, the light SUCKED that evening. But it was the most serendipidous catch of my short rail photography life, so I opted to post them here. Wish me luck, I've never posted pics before. Pop
No, the 5 were CSX, UP, KCS, BNSF, and NS. TFM was just a bonus, not a Class 1.BTW, that TFM loco is a C30-7SS, according to http://www.online-isp.com/~rcraig/KCS.HTML .Pop
It's only one section of it. TFM is a company owned by KCS and some Mexican shipper whose name I forget. When Mexico the country, which owned NdeM, sold it off, it sold it off in sections, and required that any company that bought any piece needed to be 51% or more owned by a Mexican company. Edit: I thought KCS wasn't a Class 1? When did it gain the necessary revenue? A Class 1 needs over $255 million dollars in annual revenue. Tom
TFM is owned in part by KCS. I have seen solid TFM power on KCS trains running through New Roads. I'll be there today and tomarrow and maybe get a pick or two. Also when I finish the roll in my camera I will have a little thing with pics of FM OP engines. We have two at the plant.Kevin Arceneaux DEFAULT IS FOR DUMMIES
