Hello all! I'm a newbie here and wanted to introduce myself. I just bought a copy of MSTS and am looking forward to learning the in's and out's of train simming. I've been reading a lot of the messages here lately to help me decide whether or not to give it a try and decided it looked like it would be fun.I've been heavily into Flight Sim for a while now, but I've always loved trains and this seemed like a natural. My Grandfather was a track foreman for the Illinois Central for many years (40+ I believe)and my Uncle was a fireman on a locomotive for several years, so I guess I've got it in my blood. From the looks of things here, it appears I share a last name with a prominent member of the Train Sim community. Don't think we're related, but ya never know Anyway, just wanted to say hello. Looking forward to being involved with MSTS and you all.Ken Pryor

RE: Greetings!

OK, well maybe it’s time to welcome you to:KNOWN ISSUESTwo I can think of, off the top of my head, are:1. Your train WILL uncouple on the Marias Pass Route that ships with MSTS. The two workarounds are to strengthen your couplers, or to use the other track. There is a third party version of Marias Pass in the Library. I don’t know it they fixed these problems.2. The front coupler doesn’t usually work. There’s at least one MSTS patch for it that I know of, and it still doesn’t usually work. There are tweaks to make it a little better.

RE: Greetings!

Thanks for the recommendations! I'm in the middle of downloading the 90 meg Illinois Central package right now, but plan to add on much more (at least till the hard drive begs for mercy ) I like passenger trains too and will take a look at the stuff you mentioned. I would love to find a route, etc, for the Amtrak trains that run from Carbondale to Chicago to Carbondale every day, but I'd be surprised if it exists at the moment. I don't know much about this sim yet and any suggestions are very much appreciated.

RE: Greetings!

I am definitely interested in the Conrail Indy stuff. I have an interest right now of getting as much Illinois/Indiana stuff as I can. Just like in Flight Sim, where I always liked flying my own area, I'd also like to railroad in my general area. Once I learn more about all this, I'd love to create the Indiana Railroad, as it runs through my town over to the Newton power station(former IC line), etc. Don't know how to even start that project now, but maybe someday.
