This has been aware for a very long time now and it will just intensify over time until the government finally puts an end to Amtrak. Peronally, I think the Santa Fe Super Cheif should be put back into service and ran under BNSF. Things were good back then, until Amtrak joined the scene. Same in Canada too, we had CP and CP running things until the government decided to kill that off and form VIA, which in my opinion, is a crappy name for a passenger railroad. Its all gonna come back to the freight roads I hope.*~þHÃt*Rat~**~classic american playa~*

A while ago in the Chicago Tribune there was an article about the end of Amtrak, and the possibility of the railroads bringing back passenger service. A Union Pacific executitive was quoted as saying "Passanger trains bleed red ink and we are not in the business of losing money." If Amtrak ceases operations passenger train service for all intents and purposes will vanish also. The airlines are finding out now what the railroads found out in the 50's, that is that transporting people is a money losing venture. There are few airlines that turn a profit, Southwest is one, but for the most part the airlines as well as Amtrak cannot compete against the automobile. Mike
