Too bad they put that flag on the side back-wards. Strips should be facing the opposite direction.

Seems odd, but he is correct. If you look on greyhound(which I hate) busses, they are stripes toward the rear on both the left and right sides..and that one has it facing the front of the loco, not the rear.thanks,

As Cello said the stripes should always face toward to back the same direction as the wind would blow the flag. The same goes for uniforms that display a patch of the flag. Its really a small oversight but this is written in the rules of the flag. See the attached link and scroll to the bottom.

Ahhh........I see, and my apologies. I didn't realize that they were to "point" to the back...I had always seen them with the blue patch and stars in the upper-left corner, and I just assumed that was the way that they were to be displayed.I guess you do learn something new everyday! Dan

RE: Jet Train In Toronto Today

That's it precisely. The official way to display it is with the "union" (the blue field) to the upper-left in a stationary application, whether it's horizontal or vertical; on a vehicle, it's to be with the union at the top from the viewer's point of view, with the union towards the front of the vehicle.Either way, I think the JetTrain locomotive is a very attractive one, and, if successful, could be good for high-speed service on various high-traffic short-haul lanes. (For example, Detroit-Chicago, or Seattle-Eugene.)RDF

I doubt that anyone got to run it while it was in the TDot...it was here for 3 days, and it wasn't even fired up.Plus the fact that CN or CP didn't get near the thing while it was here. And nevermind the fact that with a train of 6 coaches that it would go from 0-100mph in 150 seconds (BBD info). It should be heading for Calgary or Edmonton sometime this coming week.Dan

RE: Jet Train In Toronto Today

Dude I think you are full of $hit!
When it was here in Washington no one got to "fire it up and take it for a spin"! So why would Toronto be any different?
Yard speeds are typically 15mph and that is below the continuous run rating for the traction motors on that guy. So it would hardly be a typical operating environment. I doubt that you would even have to move the controller above the 1st or 2nd notch out of a bunch (Continuous) to achieve that.
IMHO if you dad DID get to run it around the yard, IN IDLE, and then decided he didn't like it? If you are accurately portraying his true feelings I sure wouldn't want him working on my RR or any train I'm riding in!
What the rail industry does NOT need at this time is one more close minded dinosaur who's mind is made up before the fact and don't confuse him with facts, thank you very much!
What they DO need is innovative people who think for themselves and think out of the BOX...
The old style thinking made them/the Rail Industry the Non-Success they are today!BTW, aren't you the guy who climbs on here and says that everything except GMs suck? In spite of the Fact that GM's market share has been steadily eroding for years and persistent rumors abound that EMD is for sale, Cheap? And that their passenger offerings (F59 and DE/DM units) have been a technical disaster. In fact the only viable builders of GM passenger units are not GM. For instance did you know that GE sold more replacement parts for GM than EMD does?See my above statement about "Old Style Thinking" and "Resistance to Change" THAT has been an epidemic at GM for years and did a number on their Automobile business too!

RE: Jet Train In Toronto Today

He has almost 35 years of experience plus any and all braggings right so he gets to whirl around in anything he wants. He wanted the Jetrain and he said to me he did not want a part of it. It's going to be another Acela. Let's see what the Crown wants with it. To me it's another piece of crap. Unless you get GM or GE to produce it, then it will not be a piece of crap.As for GM I didn't say anything negative about them. I am however biased since I was born and raised in Ontario, I like GE's too, moreso now than EMD's because GE's still keep going and going (with a few small exceptions). THe F59PH was not a disaster, the F59PHI and DE/DM units were. No flame wars, go ask my dad. Even my great uncle who has 50 years got to take a spin in it and he doesn't like it either. Good thing they didn't put me behind the wheel or else I would've totalled it.

Jet Train In Toronto Today – image 39

Okay, this is going to be my last post on the topic.First off, it don't matter how much seniority your dad has. If he's not trained to operate a unit, HE WILL NOT OPERATE IT. Period.Second off, you obviously don't know just how "tight" BBD is....at the unveiling in T.O., I was told that I was not to take any photographs, since I wasn't an "acreditted media" member (not that it stopped me). If that's just to some shmoe with a camera, think about what would happen if some guy actually wanted to drive it!Third, doesn't your father supposedly work for CP? If so, than what would he be doing on VIA property, driving a VIA engine? Other than the White River RDC's, CP doesn't supply VIA with any crews, and so he'd have no reason to be down there. I'd even go as far as saying that he could be tresspassing on VIA property (unless he actually got permission to the supposed event...which didn't really happen). No one really has to ask anyone...it's plainly obvious that you're lying. So why don't you give it up already?Dan

RE: Jet Train In Toronto Today

I have to agree with you Dan, this SD70 guy is full of 'bovine refuse'. Firstly, without authorisation of the management of either VIA or Bombardier (most likely both) no third party can operate the locomotive. Secondly, even with permission to be on-board, no third party can operate the locomotive without supervision from a suitably qualified employee of VIA or Bombardier. Thirdly, assuming the aforementioned conditions are met, in yard tracks it is unlikely to achieve more than 15mph, which is hardly a true test of performance, as Chuck has stated. To say it "will" be another Acela is a) unjust and b) impossible to prove. a) because you are jumping to conclusions and b) I seriously doubt your ability to make accurate predictions about the future. The only real problem Acela has had is yaw damper failure. I have heard a rumour that JetTrain is being used as a 'guinea pig' for an improved design(s) of yaw damper.

Your bunch of sh*t. God like everyone else been saying, its simply impossible. Have you also notice that the terrorist level is at a yellow or orange, (Sorry if I got that wrong). So this means that security at airports and most likely at anything that shows anything that can be used as a terrorist weapons will have hyped up security. and how did you grandfather come in?
