ALP-46 – image 1

In the March(2003) issue of Railroad model Craftsman, there is an excellent article about the NJ Transit ALP-46.It shows a cab shot, shots of the roof, trucks, side and has drawings along with a few action shots of the loco.
Its a very good article and anyone interested in this locomotive or building it, the article may be a huge help!RobALP-46 – image 2

RE: ALP-46

Too late the model is already done...
We've (NALW & MadMike)been crying and begging for pictures and drawings all over usenet! Seems the reason we couldn't get any was the only guys to have them were commercial...
So we had to extrapolate everything from the Bombardier and NJT websites and various fan sites....
Never found any straight down roof shots or drawings...
We Even wrote to NJT and got ignored!
We Had Michael Steinberg (Who collaborated on the U34CH in the NJT Pack) of HobokenTerminal.com looking for us with no joy!
Oh Well maybe some corrections for the 1.5 patch?

Re-inforcements if you will! They will continue to run ALP44s(AEM7s) for the foreseeable future. The big thing is the 46s can haul/push almost half again as many cars as the 44s and easily out accelerate them as the 46s anti-slip/traction control system is much more advanced than the 44s
(Part of this is the 44s are supposed to still have their "Amtrak Style" Mainline Gearing <125mph> and the 46s <100mph> are optimized much better for start/stop service)Chuck Schneider

Chuck, if you were to e-mail any other transit company regarding textures of a locomotive, passenger car, etc. - whether it's new or old - you would never get a reply from them either.I remember back two years ago when I wanted to help Xacto in getting pictures of the front, the back and the sides of a CTA Nova LFS Bus for him to texture the same model in MM, and I e-mailed CTA if they would do this request. I didn't get a reply from them at all. I could've searched through the net for pictures, but I had no clue on where to start and was a bit lazy. But I did find one picture in the CTA site that looked similar to the Nova LFS Bus and it seemed to work.I'm sure that all these transit companies would only want to hear peoples' opinions in how to improve the bus, subway, and/or train systems. Everything else would be disregarded.

Well, they never answered my email, and when we showed up the one day GWI officials were painting in the paiont-shop so we couldn;t sneak over to the storage track....

FWIW, GE sent us all the specs and some drawings on the Genesis Series (A complete marketing package...)
We also have an Operator's Manual (Outdated but the real thing) For an AEM7...
Note we also had The Guy who runs HobokenTerminal.Com (The unofficial but definitive NJT Fan Site) using his contacts for us too...If we guessed wrong on the Roof ( The only part we didn't have clear pictures of ) Then we'll fix it as soon as we get access to the drawings... (Note: I don't subscribe to RMC any more and haven't since I moved down here almost 20 years ago and most of my Brass Collection was stolen while in Storage)Chuck Schneider
