Mutated SD90MACS? – image 1

I was browsing through George Elwood's site when I happend to notice some strange pictures of UP's SD90MACs. Since when did the 90MACS start getting slanted noses and rooftops and cab mounted number boards?Mutated SD90MACS? – image 2Mutated SD90MACS? – image 3Mutated SD90MACS? – image 4What goes on here?

These are the latest versions of the SD90MACs. The front end is designed to allow easier access for the crew. With the slanted hood it was easy to smack your head as you entered. Nick

While aesthetics no longer play much of a role in railroading, that still has to be the ugliest locomotive I've ever seen. No wonder GE has taken majority market share.

UP 8500 was the first, I think. Yes that's the 6000HP 265H engine. Looks pretty gosh darned ugly. The new nose on the SD70M is a lot better.

RE: Mutated SD90MACS?

Beauty is in the eye of the beholder. I personally think that the beasts are quite appealing. Kinda "Brutish" in their own way, reminds me of a notched nose Alco. In any case, whoever ends up doing the 90Macs; let's not neglect this one; after all; variety is the spice of life!!! Ron K of Rockford

That is pretty neat that Mutated 90MAC...Id like to see one in Norfolk Southern or Conrail paint even though they never had none.
