Off Topic, NASCAR

Commercial break...I was very pleased to see Michael Waltrip win the (rain-shortened) Daytona 500 today. Mikey's never forgotten where he's come from and is a true family-guy, IMO. Auto racing is not an easy sport to be even marginally good at, yet alone excel.His emotional comments re Dale Earnhardt 'watching down' were priceless and from his heart...He spoke volumes, in an indirect way, for Many Of You, here at train-sim, who have given and shared your all, and for which I thank each of you.Interlude over; Back to railroading...John Roth

I'll put this back into a general railroading post by saying, Amtrak is a co-sponser of Rusty Wallace....I would have rather seen Busch or even my tow drivers, J. Johnson or Gordon pull it off, and johnson and Busch could have done it perhaps with a bit more time.Out of all the DEI cars, I'm glad to see Mikey win it again, and this time be able to enjoy the victory, especially after his crash yesterday. I wish NASCAR would have waited and tried to finish it Monday. If there is one race that fans should get thier money's worth, it is the 500. Thin of all the people who spent a week down there, all building up to todays race, and people like me who waited all week, and really, since Novemeber for this day, only to be put to sleep by the red flags. Newmans crash about the most exiciting part.

agreed mikey deserved to be able to celebrate his daytona 500 a little better, glad to see him win. i would have rather seen it run the full 500 miles because i think earnhardt jr. would have been able to get back on the lead lap and it would have made for a great finish. and my guy johnny benson finished in the top 20 so i can't complain too much.joe

It is defiently good to see Mikey win. It's really good when it leaves me with a pocket of cash...lol. As for the tribute locos, I like the idea. Someone uploaded a Dale Earnhardt tribute boxcar to the file library this morning. Looks good. Some similar locos would go nicely with it. I tried to find some good NASCAR gifs to finish this one, but no real luck. Oh, well. Looks like it's the SD70s and the coal again...

For some reason I can not download anything from the library.. seems to timeout, would love the boxcar...I have not posted in some time, and was wondering while the subject was fresh, Is anyone interested in a project like this???Recreating this train set... I have ALL authentic graphics for the engine and caboose, signature, numbers, color key and such...I also have ALL nine cars. Replicated from there respective years and painted as seen. Everything down to the correct contingency packs and all. I also have the model and its ready to go.Anyhow, I have no idea how or if it will work. Any help??? Suggestion??? THANKS ALL.. And ROCK ON DEI!!!!!!

Try not to wake the trolls. I was looking for Ward Burton or Junior to win but that didnt happen. All i know is that the crash that the 12 car got into(sorry cant remember his name) was wicked...

I did that in a semi once....only once. Ripped the cab off the frame, ripped the 53' reefer into 3 big pieces, and scatered 40,000 pounds of computer paper across I-40 west of Nashville. Wreckage was strewn for about 500 yards, closed both sides of I-40 for 13 hours. Before was taken at the 2000 Make A Wish Convoy for Lancaster Pa.'s chapter. And then the after shots, of what was left over on Nov. 2, 2000

Due to the my line of business, I would have liked to have seen your mishap. Here are a few of the many I have cleaned up.
The person driving the car the RV is sitting on only had a broken leg. They had fallen asleep and drove through the center divide and the RV ran over them.
The other 3 are the results of excessive speed on a downgrade. These drivers walked away with scraches and injured pride.

Why couldn't it have rained for the 2001 Daytona 500? Even if it had just cut it 1 lap short?I miss Dale's sense of humor.

I know...I know. Wasn't even a fan of his, and I weeped. With tragedy, comes advances in safety. Dale gave his life to racing, and helped secure it's safety for generations to come, just as Kenny and Adam did.
