I once saw a pic of a UP Veranda Turbine unit helping a Big Boy on Sherman Hill. I posted a thread on the forums asking about it, but no one really seemed to understand my question. So, a while ago, I made up a train that looks like it. (yeah, the location is on Marias Pass, I know.) My question was, how could it be possible for a gas Turbine unit to run without the fuel tender behind it? premium add-ons
Hi LG All the turbine cab units had thier own small fuel tank underneath between the trucks. The veranda and its earlier cousin with the full body could run short range on this tank alone, primarily for helper service on either side of the summit, whereas the big blows ran longer distances. When the verandas were to be pressed into long haul service they recieved the auxiliary tender. John
