RE: suspension

Glad to see that computer put into the classroom by taxpayers dollars gets used for real prime educational value, add to the fact some teachers have no idea what students are using them for while they're in the same room with them. If that computer cant be secured for educational use only then it shouldnt be there. Taxpayers shouldnt be burdened by the cost of of such foolishness of joy surfing the net on school time!

Yes there is, you're at school to learn something, not learn nothing by wasting time on anything not related to your studies.
If you want to do other than use the schools equipment for purposes which it was intended the do it at home. I care not if studies are accomplished or not. This justification of your's has no backbone to it other than using it as free ride at others expence. John

I don't think you could be farther wrong! If the school computers are not needed at the time for legitimate schoolwork and a student has his/her work done, I see nothing wrong with personal use of those computers as long as it is not for personal gain or illegal activities. I think that the school computers, in this context, are in the same category as computers placed in public libraries. Both are paid for by taxes. Both are in publicly owned institutions. Students should have just as much right to use school computers as they do to use public library computers.Cal Rasmussen

RE: suspension

Well Cal I'm not going to enter the arena of the freedom thing, seems a lot of people use that as a crutch for improper actions today, now you tell me, is anyone who attends school so smart or intelligent that they cannot afford to devote all thier time to learning while they're in attendance? I dont think so, otherwise they wouldnt be there in the first place, lets face it even with todays mega technology and increaseing population there are still very few
genius level intellect individuals out there.
So I'm going to blatantly tell you sir you are wrong also! John

RE: suspension

As it would be silly to expect improvement in grades if a report card shows it to be possible. You can lead a horse to water but you cant make him drink, especially if there's a carrot in front of his nose! My last post in this thread, enough is enough, it's all acedemic. John

Yep, there are educational things on the Web, it's just that kids don't know that they're learning, for instance, a train lover like me comes across an article on trains, well I read it and I just learned somthing about trains and/or computer games!

RE: suspension

I strongly agree with you, Cal. Provided students studies are up-to-date, the activities being performed on the computers are clean and legal AND the computer(s) aren't needed by others for educational purposes I see absolutely no harm in students using them for personal use. I base my point on the fact that many kids do not have access to computers at home, so therefore they shouldn't be deprived of any opportunity they have to use them (and ultimately become comfortable with them). After all, for many of todays students computers will be their future! You can think of it this way also, if you like ... better to have the kids using the computers at school than just cutting class and doing heavens knows what!Ray
PS: I do have a good sense of what I'm talking about too. My wife works as a teacher/librarian in the Canadian educational system.
