Not sure how many songs there are about trains and railroads, but my two favorites would have to by City of New Orleans, by Willie Nelson, and Here Comes the Santa Fe, by the country and western groups, Riders in the Sky.Any others out there?

RE: Favorite Railroad Song?

Actually, "Take the A-Train" was done by Duke Ellington. Glen Miller's other train song was "Tuxedo Junction".

>Eeeh, wasn't "City of New Orleans" originally written and
>performed by Arlo Guthrie? No. It was written by a fellow from Chicago (now dead) named Steve Goodman. It was Guthrie's performance that really made it famous though. I have recordings of several different Bluegrass groups doing it.

RE: Favorite Railroad Song?

Aaah, OK..
I've got two recordings of it myself, one with Johnny Cash and one with Arlo Guthrie - I must say I prefer the one with Arlo Guthrie..

RE: Favorite Railroad Song?

I like several of Norman Blake's R&R songs. Especially "Southern Railroad Blues" and "Lincoln's Funeral Train". (Speaking of which, there would be a trainset I'd really like to see -- same same for FDR's)Brad Meyer

RE: Favorite Railroad Song?

I'm almost embarrassed to say..."Choo Choo Charlie", the little diddly from the Good & Plenty candy commercials of the 1960's, has been stuck in my head since the first I heard it. Cheers!

RE: Favorite Railroad Song?

I second the motion for "Train, Train" by Blackfoot and I'll add "Crazy Train" by Ozzy Osbourne--it isn't necessarily a train song, but the guitar riffs sure go a long way towards conjuring up the right images in my head.....
Another one is "Driver 8" by R.E.M.--great video too, nothing but Chessie System footage.Mr. F

Did anyone mention the "Thomas the Tank Engine" theme song? By far the greatest one out there. The Late John Denver sung a load of "railroad" songs.
CountryLink (New South Wales long distance passenger carrier) used "Last Train to Knoxville" as a theme song at one time.Projects
